Weird symptoms
« on: August 12, 2023, 08:07:42 AM »

Morning

I’ve been on the same dose of HRT for a year now with no problems.
Evorel 100, 2 pumps oestrogel, 5mg Provera, testogel

Over the past couple of weeks I’ve started to feel weird! I feel physically anxious, especially in the mornings, nauseous, strange heavy sleep with vivid dreams, waking up still exhausted.

I wonder if the dose of oestrogen is now too much? When it’s not enough I’m constantly tearful so the symptoms are different.

Any advice or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Evorel 100 and 2 pumps as well sounds like a very high dose so I think you are on the right track thinking it might need tweaking again.

My understanding is as our own fluctuations lessen, we don't need as much HRT to smooth them over, just an amount for the body to use for bones and cardio health and whatever else.

Thank you for your reply  :)

I’m not the best absorber of transdermal oestrogen hence the higher dose.

I definitely think it’s too high. I’m 53 now and suspect I’m post menopausal.

I just don’t feel right! X

Peri-menopuase - the years leading up to the final bleed = menopause.  End of periods.

Occasionally Nature might throw in a curved ball and any unexpected bleeding should be investigated.

HRT can mess with our natural cycle.  Sometimes it's Trial and Error - Nik2502 - had you considered dropping the testogel dose for a couple of weeks to see how your body reacts?  Keeping a mood/food/symptom diary may be of use to chart progress.  When R U next due for a meds review?

I remember pre-period nausea as dreadful  :'(

Hi CLKD

Thank you for your advice.

I haven’t had a period for over three years now. I did have a post menopausal bleed that was investigated earlier in the year and no issue was found. I’m sure it was my ovaries last goodbye! Also I felt like I was ovulating a couple of weeks before.

I’ve only recently started testogel as was using androfemme which just seemed like an expensive moisturiser to me! It could be that but I am making a sachet last 14 days instead of 8 on advice of my doctor then supposed to increase to the 8 day dose.

I can only describe how I feel as odd. I’m feeling jittery, nauseated and need the loo a lot 💩 🙈😞. It’s like I’m just not right!

I’ve recently had full blood tests and all were good.

Certainly sounds hormonal from where I'm sitting!

How were your bowels during your menstruating years?  Have these symptoms begun since starting the 'testogel'?  [sorry, vision and brain very blurred due to Covid so not thinking straight]

I've found estrogen loosens the bowels (but I wee less), and progesterone makes me constipated (but I wee more). Inly really noticed this since starting sequential hrt as i can clearly track when my progrsterone is high as i am taking what feels to be a whopping dose of utrogestan compared to my onw measly pump of estrogel. I've had all of your symptoms, except the waking up exhausted. It does sound hormonal to me too.

Hi nik2502,

I'm in a similar position to you but with different symptoms. Aged 55 On sequi regime for 2 years. Reduced from 4 pumps to 3 at beginning of year to get rid of palpitations and jitteryness/anxiety, reduced from 3 to 2 in June to reduce large, swollen tender boobs and bloating but then suffered with very low mood, anger, lack of motivation, lack of sociability, internal buzzing. Increased to 2.5 pumps 3 weeks ago and since then have had pelvic RH pain (which I had in 2016 and 2020 - got all checked out and nothing found), intermittant nausea, wierd taste in mouth occasionally. It seems all these symptoms can indicate too much or too little of the oestrogen vs progesterone balance which isn't at all helpful. It's like a bad episode of Play Your Cards right. I'm going to stick at 2.5 pumps until my GP appointment.

I think my own hormones are fluctuating wildly at the moment, hopefully in a final hoorah, but I have no idea what dosage I should be on. I've got an appointment booked with GP in a couple of weeks. I'm even considering coming off HRT just to see where I am. I have tolerated this rollercoaster for 9 or 10 years now and I've had enough of never feeling right which feed my health anxiety.

Thank you everyone.
The way I feel I definitely think it’s too much of something!
When my oestrogen is low I cry all the time  ???
It’s just such a delicate balancing act!
You just think you’re settled then bam a whole new set of symptoms.
DottyD68 I’m with you on the health anxiety. Mine is horrendous. I constantly think I’m dying which isn’t at all helpful :-( x

Oh we have a thread about that too  ::) - what I have diagnosed myself with today or similar.

I would sob the night b4 a bleed began even if a period wasn't due.  Cyclical.

CLKD

I’m terrible with health anxiety. I had sepsis 6 years ago resulting in a week in ITU. I’m sure I’ve PTSD from the experience.
Every day I give myself some new disease to worry about 🙈

I’m sure we do have some type of cycle even after menopause. Bloody hormones!

If it were me I would try slowly reducing, maybe drop by one pump of oestrogel for a couple of weeks and see if it makes any difference. If you don't feel any worse you will know you are heading in the right direction but be prepared to feel a bit rough for a week or so while your body adjusts. It may throw at you a few hot flushes while it all settles.
