Prasterone?
« on: July 25, 2023, 11:56:14 AM »

I have just watched a BMS video on BMS TV (from a link on the latest MM email) on Vaginal atrophy, where the consultant mentioned Prasterone (which is a DHEA) as an alternative to Vagifem which has good results.

Has anyone used this and/or found it better than Vagifem?

Just interested, as I am on Vagifem every other day along with conti HRT.

Thanks

What's a DHEA?

Is the 'vagifem' working for you?  Many require nightly applications and occasionally an extra pessary in the afternoon.

Hi CLKD, I just seem to be having a few tender bladder issues lately despite using Vagifem every other day. ( I did swap from gel to Estradot 50 again about 6 weeks ago so hope it's nothing to do with that??)

I have found another thread on DHEA and it's called "Intrarosa has arrived " from Oct 2019 - a few ladies have tried it so it seems. It's a pessary that you use every day but doesn't seem to be that many people on it?? Jury still out then...?

Alternative days may not be enough to ease symptoms  :-\.  Many require nightly use of either 'vagifem' or 'ovestin' plus moisturisers on the outer labia.

What's DHEA?

It's a hormone made by the adrenal glands.

You're welcome. There's a good explanation here taken from the UK Thyroid Association site https://thyroiduk.org/related-conditions/dhea-deficiency/
