Confused? Everol
« on: July 17, 2023, 07:30:14 PM »

Hi Ladies, so back in November I started hrt , estradot and ustregeon by May I was verging between being a complete nutter or wanting to die! This combination was seriously not working ( although it may come across in a jokey manner the ustregeon days where honestly terrible).
So in May the gp switched me to Evorel conti , ive had continuous bleeding and low grade tummy pain since , I had a little look around on here and have seen it can take a few months to settle down but then I noticed on a few posts that conti is for either A. Women over 55 or B. those who have not had a period for a long time...I don't fit into either of those categories  :(.  Called the gp who have sent me a prescription now for evoral sequi...firstly have I damaged myself taking the wrong thing for months ? And does anyone take this if you have any stents in arteries? ..this is an absolute minefield , has anyone just paid and gone private for a menapause specialist ? Any advice very very welcome 🙏

Hi Wtaf (love the name...),

I was told that they assume you're menopausal by 55, but the doctor who did my ultrasound (for prolonged bleeding on Evorel Conti) said it's not 100% guaranteed to be the case as some women still have natural periods at 55. The 12 months with no periods is taken as being a pretty definite menopause state.

I'm not an expert on Evorel but I doubt you've done any actual damage, maybe bleeding may be a bit unpredictable for a bit on Sequi as you've had more progesterone for a couple of months. If you're concerned definitely ask your doctor or pharmacist.

I've no idea about the stent thing, the doctor who prescribed you with HRT should have done a cardiovascular risk assessment if this question relates to you. And I hope that nutter/wanting to die phase has passed now - I know it well and it's very crap!

Good luck!

Hello Wtaf and welcome to the forum.

I agree with CarolineM in that I doubt that you have done any damage. I was once prescribed Oestrogen only for three months from a private clinic and was told that there would be bleeding but not to worry. I have also fiddled with all of my HRT preparations in my Meno journey and my womb lining is fine.

To put your mind at ease it's worth telling your doctor about stents etc but transdermal HRT is very safe and Oestrogen is known to be protective of the heart. One of the reasons men have more heart problems is that they don't have the benefits of Oestrogen for most of their lives.

Btw I am also familiar with being a nutter or wanting to end it all so I sympathise.

I hope this helps you and wishing you well.

K.

Thank you both,  I am hoping now that i am switched to the sequi I will start to see an improvement. I would like to think a cardiovascular assessment was done but I'm finding it tricky with my GP at the moment, I'm feeling rather failed by my local practice . Have found more accurate information on this forum  :)

Hi Wtaf,

Many perimenopausal women are on a continuous HRT regime because they have a Mirena coil as their progesterone component and add oestrogen in whatever form sorts them best.

I’m still not through peri menopause, I’m 54 and I have a continuous regime (patches and utrogestan) because I can’t handle the withdrawal from progesterone (bad migraines etc).

HRT comes in all shapes and sizes. The only thing medics seem to agree on is progesterone is a necessity to keep the womb lining thin, so being on conti won’t have harmed you at all.

I can’t comment on the heart/stent issues except to echo what other contributors have said……oestrogen is known to be protective of the heart.

As for a private menopause clinic, I bit the bullet and went to Newson Health. It’s the best money my husband has ever spent (he says)!!

Thank you Ermin2trude , I'm going to give this sequi a good 8 weeks and if I'm not making some massive improvements all round ( including the lovely new anxiety) then I think a private consultant maybe the way to go
