Heavy bleeding urgh
« on: July 03, 2023, 05:29:31 PM »

Hi, I am new here and came on to see if anyon3 has experienced similar issues.

Hello 😊
Any advice, or have been through same?
I'm 56. Periods stopped 6 years ago.

I was referred for hysteroscopy and biopsy 5 weeks ago due to spotting. All clear (phew).
Fitted with Mirena at same time.
Ive been bleeding ever since (for 5 weeks) 😪
At first it was spotting then gradually got worse and is now like a medium / heavy period with cramps. No sign of let up.
Dr prescribed Provera 10mg for 2 weeks (3.5 weeks ago). Now on antibiotics, no change.
Very fed up. Off on first hols for 5 years in 12 days time.....
Im calling Dr again on Weds to report back and perhaps ask more high dose Provera?
Had 3 x Mirenas previously to cope with heavy periods, no problems.
Can anyone relate? Thanks in advance x

It might settle eventually, your Doc could prescribe Tranexamic Acid to try and stop the bleeding before you go on holiday. I hope you get it sorted. I've had terrible issues with bleeding with utrogestan.

Hi Sunflower. How miserable for you but good news the biopsies were clear.

Were you told the thickness of your womb lining? Does the doctor suspect infection if you are on antibiotics?

Thank you Nicola, I haven't heard of that and will mention it to my GP x

Hi Taz, thank you for replying, the measurement wasn't given only that it was thicker than it should be but they said the Mirena would be good for it. The Dr prescribed antibiotics 'in case' there was an infection causing the bleeding. Thank you for the welcome 😊 x

Morning.  It is probably the side effects of the Mirena.  Unless the person inserting the device was particularly heavy handed, I can't see that there would be infection present  :-\.  I would be asking for a referral to a GP in the Practice that actually knows about the coil and its effects.

:welcomemm:  Perhaps give the Nurse Practitioner a ring this morning and ask the question: why have I been given ABs .......... let us know how you get on.  Browse round.  Make notes.

If it was thicker than normal then it is important to reduce it to normal thickness and the bleeding is necessary. Once the thick lining has been shed the mirena should then keep the lining thin.

Thank you so much CLKD, that's super helpful, I will call my practice.

Thanks again  Taz, I didn't know that but it makes sense.
