Utrogestan vaginally dosage
« on: June 25, 2023, 07:00:08 PM »

Hi ladies

I am on peri meno HRT and use sandrena gel for 14 days then Utrogestan for 12 to 14 days latter part of month.
I couldn't tolerate utrogestan orally so use it vaginally. Orally dosage is 2 x 100mg capsules. Vaginally I insert 1 x 100mg. My GP stared at me blankly when I asked to use it vaginally as she doesnt have much knowledge on HRT so I have just used my judgement on dose vaginally. Please don't recommend I speak to my GP as she is the menopause expert at the practice and like I say she just didn't reply to my question. I am waiting a meno specialist appointment few months to go yet on waiting list but just after anyone who uses Utrogestan like me and has been given advice re dosage  from GP/meno specialist.
Thank u xxx

Yes, I use 100mg vaginally for 12 days per month, I skip a month and use it every 2nd one as I am on a very low dose of the gel. I cannot tolerate the 200mg.

Hi Cassie

Thank you for replying hunni that's good to know. Im on 0.5mg of Sandrena gel so a low dose also. I felt 200mg was alot orally even for the amount of oestrogen I am on. I will continue as I am this is month 2 for for using vaginally and suits me so much better than oral. No low slump in mood xxx

Hi Losingtheplot,

If the dosage you're using suits you then stick to that.

Apparantely because you're using it vaginally you don't need as much as it's getting direct to where it needs to be, and not as much is lost as when taking it orally.

I'm so glad it's working for you xxx

According to the BMS and the manufacturer the dose is the same by whichever route. Newson says you can halve the dose if used vaginally. Probably safe for low/med oestrogen dose, not too sure about high doses. If you use less than the recommended amount imo it's really important you have regular scans to make sure the lining isn't building up (increased cancer risk).
