Estrogel application
« on: June 13, 2023, 06:26:37 PM »

Hi everyone. I know you’re meant to apply Estrogel to clean dry skin. And you’re meant to wait at least an hour before applying moisturiser. But what about the other way round? If I’ve had a shower and moisturised earlier in the day. Is it ok to apply Estrogel before bed?

Also slightly embarrassing question, but due to chronic illness and low energy I don’t shower/ bath as much as I’d like. Can I put more gel over areas where I already applied gel previously? It seems to leave a kind of sheen so I’m not sure if I can apply more gel over it?

Thank you xx

Hi HaRuHaRu

I use oestrogel.

That's an interesting question and I'm no expert so other more experienced ladies will come and correct me if I'm wrong.

But I would have thought that if you say shower and moisturise in the morning and apply your gel at night then the moisturiser would have absorbed by evening I would have thought.

There's no such thing as an embarrassing question on here, we all try to help one another, but regarding putting more gel over areas where you'd previously applied gel, for me personally I like to shower beforehand and kind of exfoliate the piece of skin that I'll be applying the gel again. The other option is to rotate where you put your gel, so for instance if you use your  arms one day, maybe use your inner thighs the next day?

I hope this helps and as I say I'm no expert these are just my thoughts xxx

Discogirl thank you, I was rotating arms and inner thighs but my specialist said to just use thighs (2 pumps morning and 2 evening) she said otherwise it skews blood tests which are drawn from arms.

Maybe I should do inner & outer thigh of one leg in evening and on other leg in morning, then on some days instead of applying gel over gel I can wipe the area with a damp cloth to remove residue first. It’s good to be able to chat things though like this.

And thank you re “no such thing as an embarrassing question here” ❤️

Hi HaRuHaRu

I think what you've said is worth a try.

As much as I used to hate hearing it especially when my symptoms were bad but it is true,  it is partly trial and error to find out what works for you xxx

Thanks discogirl - yes it’s not a one way fits all thing. Interesting how different we are are in what works/ suits us.

I’m now wondering if this is why the gel isn’t easing symptoms in the same way the patches did (I had to stop patches due to skin reaction but they really helped symptoms) - maybe because I’ve been applying gel over gel it’s hampering absorption. Fingers crossed being careful about application will improve things.

It might just be that you need more gel. I think we all absorb these things differently so might need more of one product than another.

Thanks Joziel, I’m seeing the specialist again in a month and planning to have blood tests to see what my actual levels are. Be interesting to see. Although I never had bloods when on the patches so don’t have anything to compare it to.
