I am wanting to change the way I've been taking utrogestan, or ask my gp for cyclogest.

I cannot take it orally or vaginally at night as it leaves me too wired.

Can someone confirm either way, I've been taking it for the last 10days vaginally in the morning and I was wanting to know how long the utro takes to be absorbed.

The only information I have found is from Besins and various other sites however its regarding fertility treatment, which claim that:

"Utrogestan is normally absorbed within minutes of insertion, however, it is advised that you wait 15 minutes before showering and 30 minutes before having sexual intercourse or swimming."

and this is from an Australian fertility site regarding using utro vaginally for fertility purposes:-

"The capsule will melt and the progesterone is absorbed, there is no need to remaining lying down after insertion"

This is information regarding using it for fertility treatment. Do you think it would be the same using it for hrt? As if that's the case then I'm fine taking it in the mornings.

It’s advised to take Utrogestan at night but you can take it in the morning if you prefer.

do you think taking it in the morning that absorption would be enough. as the only info i have found is regsrding using it for fertility purposes xxx

Hey I have  started utro on a morning vaginally this is day 2 and so far so good I think.  My VA is improving to how it was so able to tolerate utro this way now. I used an applicator yesterday and hours later found the utro on the bathroom floor! So now i just use a finger and it seems to stay put

Hi Losingtheplot,

Well mornings seem much better for me; I have this morning just started using it rectally and I will see how it goes. I am planning to trial it every other morning as 100mg just seems too much for me. Maybe I need to build up to using 100mg utro.

When I use it vaginally I push it up with my finger then insert an applicator thing I have. to try and push it further up. Let me know how you get on

Ahh right hopefully I am managing to insert it high enough vaginally as I suppose that will affect if absorption doesn't happen in the right area?
Hope your new method works for you too. Don't seem to be getting any nausea either using it this way. Am just using 100mg compared to 200mg I would use orally

yes from what ive learned if you use it vaginally you dont need as high a dosage.

are you using the 100mg vaginally every day? xxx

Yes I am every morning only be 2 mornings so far. I just halved the dose based on what Ive read on this forum. Don't know if I am I think I am peri but difficult to say as I dont bleed on current contraception never have and no bleeds on HRT.
GP didn't respond when I mentioned using it vaginally due to side effects oral.so just doing things that I feel will.suit me.better till.I eventually see a meno specialist.
Are you having breaks and not using it everyday?

My gp had never heard of using it vaginally till i mentioned it he checked it out said it was off licence and that it was fine.

i have used it rectally this morning. i was planning on using it every other day. if that doesnt work i might try cyclical regime. i just cannot seem to tolerate 100mg utro for longer than 7 days in a row. after that it seems to build up. my gp has no issues with me getting womb lining checked so i will do that in 6 mths as ive just had it done.

please keep in touch and let me know how you get on. i am bleeding at the moment but thats to be expected with me changing my prog routine.

i am going to ask my gp for cyclogest as i could easily cut those into smaller pieces and take those everday.
