Utrogestan and anxiety
« on: May 18, 2023, 12:49:02 PM »

Hi all
I am new to the forum and wonder if anyone has any advice or help.
I’m peri menopausal and have been taking oestrogel and utrogestan for approx 4 months. I moved from desogestrel to utrogestan as I continuously bled
Since I have been on utrogestan my anxiety has gone to level 10, I’m struggling to leave the house and find myself so teary. I am waiting to speak to my gp but would really appreciate any help at all. I have read that utrogestan is the better progesterone to take and shouldn’t have these side effects

Hello and welcome to the forum. I am sorry to hear of how anxious you are feeling. Many women find Ultrogestan causes them anxiety or very low mood and are unable to take it. It does sound like it may not be the best option for you.

Some women who continuously bleed prefer the Mirena coil. Another progesterone is Provera.

You are not alone here. You may like to put Ultrogestan into the search bar and have a read through some of the threads about it.

Hey hunni
Welcome firstly and I just want to say I am on Utrogestan too and also found my anxiety thru the roof when I took it last month for the 1st time. I am on Ads too so am unsure which caused the anxiety as I am early days with Ads and they can strangely enough cause more anxious dark thoughts in first couple.of weeks.

Flossie makes a good suggestion there are a whole.heap of posts on Utrogestan and some people have tried vaginally and found that to suit them better with less side effects such as the anxiety.
I wish you well and this forum is a lovely place for support and advice.xxxx

Hi,

I to am peri menopausal, I started HRT last January taking 1 tablet of utrogestan and 2 pumps of Oestrogel, i was fine for a while then my symptoms came back which was awful then the utrogestan was increased to 2 tablets for 14 days it was then i noticed something wasn't right my anxiety and mood swings was of the chart i went through an awful time.

I went to see a private gynecologist who specialises in the menopause and it appeared that my body was super sensitive to utrogestan and advised me to have the marina coil. I had this fitted on the 6th April and within a couple of days i felt calmer and was able to get a good night sleep, it took around 6 weeks to settle although i just really had bad period cramps on and off, i now take 3 pumps of Oestrogel in the evening and finally (touch wood) i am in a good place! i know its not for every but for me was the best decision i made.

Hope this helps x.

We're you definitely post meno before you started (1 year without a bleed when not on any hormone medication)? Just wondering if you might be better on a sequi regime. I don't think utro is suited to you given the side effects but it isn't the best at controlling problem bleeding anyway. As above, a mirena is usually the best for this.
