Spotting!
« on: April 18, 2023, 08:30:02 PM »

Hi again ladies,
Well I’ve had the mirena in almost a year now. Upped patch from 75 to 100 around 6 weeks ago. Yesterday started spotting and again today. Have dull ache in my abdomen ( bit like period pain)

What is going on?

Had u/s in September last year and a small fibroid was found. Hysteroscopy last February and all normal.

I only saw the menopause specialist last week and reported all was fine!

It’s possibly the increase in oestrogen that’s caused it. Any increase can cause bleeding and can take up to 6 months to settle.

Hey Nas,
Whilst time differences aren't the same, I had mirena coil in October last year, bled\spotted until January. Then nothing, the in March a bleed for 10 days with cramps etc. This month, no bleed but terrible moods and dips. Mine seems to be cyclical?  But I am peri, so still getting monthly hormonal surges at same times of month.

Not sure but it helps at all as I think you are post meno?  Maybe the increase in dose  has stirred things up again?

Sure someone will be along with some actual advice.

Sorry for you Nas as I know things seemed to be improving for you. Too many false hope scenarios that we have worked this Crap out.

Hugs as always

Hi
I'm a newbie on here and couldn't quite work out how to put up a new discussion but my issue is along similar lines to this so any advice would be appreciated -

I am 54 and tried patches and tablet for a couple of years but just kept bleeding so on the advice of a gynaecologist have had the marina coil fitted while also rubbing on oestrogen gel every day. Since it has been fitted, I have had spotting every day which is now over 2 months - IS THIS NORMAL?? Bit fed up with it now and wonder whether to go back to docs?

Thanks for any help

Hi JuliaKay,

I had the mirena coil fitted last October, and had light bleed or spotting for just over three months. It stopped , then I had a light bleed in March. Apparently it can take up to six months to settle down, and whilst really annoying, it seems 'normal'.

Hope this reassures you.... Oh and welcome as a newcomer. So helpful and supportive on here.

Thanks Sarah and Dotty.
Yes I am post menopausal by 5 years. Maybe it’s the increase in oestrogen that’s caused the spotting, i don’t know.

I emailed the menopause specialist and she said try decreasing my patch; so back to  75.

I just thought that with a mirena in place, you could pretty much use what ever dose oestrogen and no bleeding would happen. Wrong!!

JuliaKay, yes spotting with the mirena is normal unfortunately. Eventually is should settle down. It’s very annoying though, I agree!
