Bleeding and more problems
« on: April 14, 2023, 07:57:22 PM »

Been taking Sandrena 1 & a half mg and 200 Utrogestan 12 days.  On this for over a year.  Tried going up to 2mg Sandrena but cortisol surges started again.  Now bleeding more at different times.  Cortisol surges have started again and more migraines starting from panicky dreams in the early hours.  Spoke to Dr and said she wasn’t bothered about the bleeding, that’s normal(?) otherwise try the Mirena coil.  I have always hated the idea of the coils I that option is out.   Sun d as my one advise where I go from here?  Menopause specialist?  Big thanks.

Hi pinkmarshmallow - your  post seems to have appeared three times - hopefully you can delete the others or at least delete what you've said! I can't make out the sentence at the end but guess you're asking for advice. It depends where you are in menopause, what your periods were doing before you started HRT, and how old you are. If bleeding is unpredictable, this could be due to your cycle or  sometimes random shedding of the lining if it has built up - though your oestrogen dose is not high. If you don't want a Mirena coil then one way is either to increase the amount of progesterone ( eg 300 mg) which I think is recommended by the  British Menopause Society in their paper on progestogens (sorry no time to look now) OR  increase the duration - so taking the progesterone for say 21 days instead of 14. Sorry can't help with the migraines but sympathise. Have you identified when they occur in your HRT cycle or if there is any pattern? I get a lot of vivid dreams when I am on the Utrogestan phase of my cycle.

Thanks Hurdity.  Sorry all for the 3 posts - it told me it wasn’t saving! And some of it has totally gone weird!  Think it was part my wifi going off and on at the time:-\

I’ll ask the Dr about the idea of increasing to 300mg progesterone and about increasing the length of time taking it.    I’m 54 and think I’m still in peri - no idea now.  My periods before HRT were erratic for a year (was 51/52 years old).  The bleeding is at different times (it was around day 21 for 4 days).

Thanks for your advice x

CLKD - I take 1.5 mg Sandrena gel rubbed in on thighs every day.  Diet is okish(!) but could always improve.  Put on a stone in weight (need to lose at least half of that) but do need to work out which foods to eat every 3 hours or so without gaining more pounds!  Some nuts are triggers for my migraines so limited taking nuts as a snack.  As I also have 3 adults in the household off and on, I struggle with cooking for everyone when 1 is a vegetarian and me trying to eat for ME.   My sleep is mainly better - hardly any sweating now; heat is still an issue but bearable.
