New to HRT, Vaginal Atrophy & Previous Issues with Microgynon
« on: September 13, 2023, 12:27:07 PM »

Hello

So I am 5 years ish without a period and have suffered from all the usual symptoms, hot flushes, mood swings, memory loss, sleep, vaginal dryness (atrophy?) but have muddled through due to historical issues with microgynon causing me stomach cramps, weight gain and depression and not wanting to experience this again.

Then a few weeks ago I had sex with a new partner which caused a tear and the most incredible bleeding I have ever experienced.  A trip to a&e and some stitches later I was fine again, but it really caused me to think - maybe it's time for HRT as I want to have a future sex life!  I have been taking estriol cream for some time but perhaps need to take it more frequently than I have.  Or maybe the issues are so bad I will always have issues, which is a completely miserable prospect.

The doctor has prescribed me with oestrodose (2 pumps daily) and utrogestan 100 (1 tablet per day).

Does anyone have any experience of this combo?  What can I expect?  Will this help with the vaginal dryness in combination with the estriol cream?

Can I expect a return to the issues experienced taking microgynon i.e. weight gain and depression, by taking the utrogestan?  I'm a bit nervous about starting all of this!

Looking forward to hearing of any similar experiences of advice out there.....hopefully!

Thanks all  :)

VA treatment is for life but please do not let that make you feel sad.

HRT can help with VA but I have found locialised oestrogen to be essential for controlling it. I use it daily as if I miss a day I find I get sore. I suggest you use it daily until your symptoms feel under control then you can reduce it slightly if you wish. You may like to buy a vaginal moisturiser too. I use Yes.

I am unsure about the HRT question but somebody will know and reply soon.  :)

Hi Flossie thanks for your reply, so you use both a localised oestrogen cream and the vaginal moisturiser?  I assume you don't use them on the same day?

You are very welcome. :)

The vaginal moisturiser can be used on any part of the vagina. When I insert the oestrogen cream I put some vaginal moisturiser on the applicator to help it glide. I then put some vaginal moisturiser in the palm of my hand and mix it with a little oestrogen cream and apply that to the outer area. Throughout the day I apply some of the moisturiser to help stop me from being dry.

Requiring stitches though .......... hopefully dissolvalbe?

Lots of lube required plus appropriate vaginal atrophy treatment.  The skin becomes thin and itchy .......... let us know how y ou get on?

I literally had no idea what had happened at the time, it was horrendous - no pain at all, just a bloody tsunami!  Awful...

Yes dissolvable, thank heavens!  Totally need to travel with lube in case I ever get lucky again :D
