Help please! Worried!
« on: March 23, 2023, 09:30:24 AM »

Hi there, so I’ve been on Evorel Conti patches for the past six weeks and, being surprised my prescription is about to run out, I’ve just contacted the GP and said I didn’t think they’d given me enough of the patches for the three months I was supposed to be taking them. Turns out they’ve made a mistake, apparently I was supposed to be taking evorel 100 patches for 10 weeks and then the Conte patches for two weeks after that. I had thought it was a bit odd that I was prescribed the Conti patches alone as I haven’t gone 12 months without a period although I am 55 so assumed this was the reason. My health anxiety has now kicked off big-time! Am I likely to have overdosed on the hormones and therefore be at higher risk for cancer, sorry if that sounds dramatic. I really need a new GP they messed up my daughters Crohn’s disease diagnosis too!

Hi I don’t think you will have done any harm. You might get breakthrough bleeding.

What is concerning though is the prescription they have told you to take : Evorel 100 for 10 weeks and then Evorel Conti for 2 weeks ? Is that right ?

Hi EllieJ I agree with Dotty in regards to no harm done, health anxiety s the pits and I know how you must be feeling, can you ask for a meno savvy Dr at all? Or is there a meno clinic in your area?
Drs didn't diagnose my daughter with crohns either,it took for her to go down to 7 stone and admitted to A&E then 10 days in hospital before she was diagnosed

Also agree there's no need to worry about the conti patches but your current prescription is a concern. The progestin in the conti patch is only sufficient for the oestrogen (50mcg) in the same patch. 100 is a very high dose to start on, you'd usually start on 50 or sometines 25. And 12 weeks before a scheduled bleed is imo dangerous. As you are peri you should have a scheduled bleed every month. Perhaps your gp is another who has read the textbook that says everyone is meno by 54 and too ignorant to realise some women are in their early 60s before they reach meno.

Thanks for replying all. The prescription on the Evorel Conte I’ve been using says “one patch to be applied twice weekly for two weeks after each 10 week use of evorel 100 patches” The receptionist is asking the GP to call me - apparently he is the Menopause specialist for the surgery!

Same! Doctors didn’t test her despite the fact she was passing a lot of blood! We ended up paying for a private colonoscopy and thank Heavens we did she was so poorly. Hope your daughter is on the mend x

That prescription is incorrect !!!

If you are in peri menopause then you should be using Evorel Sequi which is two weeks of Evorel 50 ( oestrogen only) then two weeks of Evorel Conti ( oestrogen and progesterone) .

Hi Ellie,
A dangerous dose would be many times higher, please don't worry about it doing any lasting harm at all.
Evorel Conti was the patch I was prescribed last year by my GP, I lasted 11 weeks, but it wasn't a mistake really because she thought I was post menopausal, I'd gone 13 months period free before getting HRT, then my periods came back and have been regular every month since, so I've to go on sequi again.

I asked the hrt specialist yesterday about tridestra which is the same idea as you are supposed to be on, ten weeks of only oestrogen followed by two weeks progesterone and oestrogen to bring on a bleed. You will have got that because you are 55, I'm 53 and was told it is an option for later when I bleed less frequently than now.

Sorry I ramble on a bit, but my point is that evorel conti was the first go to for my GP to give me, it's a common one and won't have overdosed you, it wasn't what they prescribed but it could easily have been.
Thanks everyone for your reply, I am 55, my last proper period was August and just a bit of spotting since then, very faint. I really appreciate all of your comments and feel more relaxed now that the Conti won’t have harmed me. Im just so confused! My GP hasn’t called back, been waiting and hope they haven’t forgotten me! I’ll see what he says x

Do let us know EllieJ
will do! Ha ha gp called at 6.45pm, let the phone ring twice and then hung up! He left an answerphone message saying if I need to speak to him I’ll have to call back tomorrow, even though I’d already explained I can’t have the phone at work so guess I’ll be waiting longer! Big sigh! Thanks for your comments all.

Agree with the others EllieJ, it won't have done any lasting harm, you've not been on it long enough and even if you were, it wouldn't necessarily mean there would be a problem but it would raise risk.  The body does some pretty wacky hormone imbalances itself at this time of life, so in the short term its highly unlikely to harm you.

Quick update! Finally spoke to GP who told me he had made a mistake with the prescription label and that I AM on the right HRT (Evorel Conte) even though I’m not a year without a period yet (last one was August) but I am 55 so he’s ok with me being on conte. Thanks for your help all.
