Hi,

I am struggling with painful sex and I asked my GP for oestrogen vaginal cream. The dose seems high 1mg in a ml daily which is more than my patch which is 75 micrograms in 24 hours

Should I be on a lower dose

Hello Pauline. You do not need to worry about the dose in localised oestrogen. It is a low dose. I have been using Ovestin daily for two years and I would say most of the members on this forum are using localised oestrogen. You may find it helpful to buy some vaginal moisturiser too. Yes and Sylk are gentle ones. I mix a little of the moisturiser with the ovestin to apply to the outer area and apply some to the applicator when inserting.

It's a different type of oestrogen replacement so try not to worry.  The idea is to use the product for at least 2 weeks every night: if there is stinging initially it's because the tissues are dry, so mayB you might get on with every 3rd night until the area softens. 

I find 'ovestin' useful, internally and around the labia.  Others use 'vagifem' [I think  ] internally along with 'ovestin' or other moisturisers around the outer areas.
