Over the Counter treatments
« on: February 17, 2023, 12:27:25 AM »

Hi all

I had no idea you could get ovestin cream from superdrug online.

Has anyone used the online service?  Does anyone know if you can get testosterone too?

I at least want to try ovestin and it's too difficult to communicate with my doctor's surgery, easier just to go and buy it for now.

Ok I've ordered Ovestin.

And I also went to Thriva to order a thyroid test.

Routine things need doing and my surgery is just not functioning well at all at the moment.

Sorry to hear how difficult it is to get anything from your Drs. I think it is great you will have Ovestin soon. I find it helps to use it daily.

Isn't it terrible you have to do these things yourself?? There is also a place called the independent pharmacy who will prescribe things, just in case you want to compare prices, not sure if they do ovestin but I get my betnovate from them, they seem ok  :)

Superdrug has a Female Testosterone Service. They sell Testogel but it is very overpriced. Can't say how good their advice will be and how carefully a patient's testosterone levels would be monitored.

Given the price they are selling Testogel for - 3 sachets for £18 - and a testing kit for £50 that only gives total testosterone, not FAI, I would say it is not value for money. Better to try GP or, failing that, a private menopause specialist.

But at least they are recognising a need/demand!

Jumping on the Band Wagon more like  >:(.  How can non-medical personnel sell prescription drugs that women have to fight for?

They have doctors who prescribe for them after an online consultation. Boots do the same and several online pharmacies.

When I order from the independent pharmacy, I get asked all the relevant questions online and it is an actual pharmacist

When I was first diagnosed with VA I wanted a back up supply of topical HRT as at the time I didn't know what my surgery would prescribe. I approached my local pharmacy and they said I couldn't buy over the counter.  I checked out Superdrug online pharmacy and after answering a few questions they sent me Ovestin, GP had by then prescribed Vagifem.
It was because of this forum I learned all about Ovestin and I knew what I needed to order, and later on my surgery added it to my repeat prescription.

It was a great service from Superdrug and I would certainly use them again if needed. Online pharmacies have their place when you don't want to bother your GP and are happy to pay for your treatment.
