I'm about to turn 61 and my GP has been at me for ages to quit and repeats The Mantra like a programmed robot each time I re-up my script "you should only be on the lowest possible dose for the shortest time possible". I tried coming off last year when I had to have a hysteroscopy, but the horrible symptoms returned after 6 weeks — i hung on for 3 months. When I went back to her to restart, I got The Mantra again. (Also, she wanted me to be on tabs not patches simply because "it's easier to 'come off' HRT using tabs than patches." FFS.)

Then I found a private meno specialist doc in my area, and I made an appointment, got to talk to her for an hour, ask all my questions, explain that I am unable to work with my doc to try to find what works best for me because of The Mantra. What a relief it was. Anyway, am now trying a slightly higher Estradot (50 mcg patches instead of 25) and in a month or so will get bloods to check T and E, and after that possibly try some T. Well worth the extra spend.

So, bottom line, yeah, what everyone else says. It's so frustrating to be bashing your head against a wall like this.

I would be reporting the GP to the British Menopause Society as well as Dr Currie.  Women will never be allowed to move forwards whilst this out-dated ideology continues.

I don't always think at the time: "where did U get that idea?  As well as if I get HRT that suits, it will save the NHS monies long term because I won't be taking up your time!"  Bugga - something needs to be done  :bang:

MayB all GPs should have to refer any woman who presents with anxiety/depression and/or peri-menopause symptoms directly to a dedicated menopause clinic!  No insider treatment.  Go straight to the Clinic and don't pick up the £200?

Until the NHS realises that all clinicians require menopause education ............. we shouldn't have to fight when we are feeling ill!

I really can't believe we still have a argue about it. My Dr has signed another year repeat prescription but I expect next year as I will be 61 he will see that as a cut off point. Sometimes it just feels like society wants us to know our place. We should shut up, get old and who cares if our old vagina's are dry and cracked because we aren't beautiful enough to be having sex anyway.

It really doesn’t have to be this difficult. If GP’s are so reluctant to prescribe HRT for whatever reason,  be it for our safety or protecting themselves legally, why can’t it be as simple as signing a disclaimer, we want HRT and at our own risk!
We have to sign disclaimers whenever we have operations and procedures done!

But then again I’m just a stupid woman who doesn’t know what’s she’s talking about!!
