Androfeme verses Testogel sachets dosage
« on: February 08, 2023, 05:35:36 AM »

Hi there, I’m hoping someone can help?

Could I ask a question  regarding dosages of Androfem verse Testogel sachets? I'm current taking Androfeme cream 1% 0.75ml daily, but I have managed after much persistence to get my GP to prescribe Testogel 5g Sachet 1.0ml daily (large pea size blob)
Are these similar strength/dosage?  Thank you so much.

Hi the Testogel 5g / 50mg sachets have been discontinued. The sachets are now 2.5g / 40.5mg sachets.

Here’s the info:

• Due to be discontinued from March 2022: Testogel [Besins Healthcare UK] (1% testosterone gel in 5g sachets containing 50mg testosterone): Starting dose 1/10 of a sachet/day = 5mg/day i.e. each sachet should last 10 days. The amount to apply each day is approximately equal to the size of the tip of a ballpoint pen lid (such as a Biro). The sachet should be kept in the fridge between uses.
 • Introduced to market 2022: Testogel [Besins Healthcare UK] (2% testosterone gel in 2.5g sachets containing 40.5mg testosterone): Starting dose 1/8 of a sachet/day = 5mg/day i.e. each sachet should last 8 days. The sachet should be kept in the fridge between uses. NB this is double the potency of the Testogel 50mg/5g sachets, therefore the volume applied per day is proportionately less.

If you’ve managed to get the old sachets then a sachet should last for 10 days giving you 5mg of testosterone per day. I’m not sure how that equates to Androfeme.

Thank you so much for your reply.

I haven’t started the testogel yet. I have just attended a consultant at a menopause clinic, as referred from my GP, and she has asked my GP to prescribe Testogel 5g sachets. I’m waiting on the prescription, it will obviously reflect this change you have mentioned.

I’m still not where I’d like to be regarding symptom control on my menopause journey, but definitely don’t want to go backwards. I’m really hoping someone on here has had experience with moving from Androfeme to Testogel. Thanks again x

I hope you get the correct prescription. It’s harder to work out a dosage on the new sachets as the gel is more concentrated.

If you get new sachets, the dose is 0.35 ml per day. You can measure exact dose with 1 ml syringe. I bought glass cosmetic jars (5 ml) for this purpose.

The dosage of the new sachets (if you have no way of measuring accurately)is one eighth of a sachet per day.

Just a point of information - the information "NB this is double the potency of the Testogel 50mg/5g sachets, therefore the volume applied per day is proportionately less." is inaccurate thoigh the message of applying less is correct. In fact the new formulation is not double the strength - the strength is 1.62 % as opposed to 1 % so approx one and a half times more concentrated. The dosage instructions still apply though! Not sure where that info came from? It really highlights the absurdity of there still not being a licensed product available for women that we are having to fiddle around with these tiny doses and miniscule blobs! Decanting from the sachet into a tube surely must mean some is wasted as it sticks to the syringe or whatever? I'm not looking forward to when I have to start using these as the potential for error ( unless it is measured) is greater. In any case not everyone needs this dosage. For example my 1 % sachets (that you have been prescribed Coops) last way more then 10 days, and that's fine for me - but I have no idea of the actual quantity or how long the sachet lasts because I never record it. Have always used a "pea-sized blob" since 2015 when first prescribed! Peas come in different sizes    ;D

Thank you Hurdity.  I'm still waiting for the prescription so I don't know what Ive been given, so many hoops to jump through even though a NHS consultant  (as referred to by GP)  from a Menopause Clinic prescribed it - The GP still won't issue the script!! it really is mind boggling!

Hi again everyone,

Just an update and hopefully a little more help from you all...

I have collected the prescription Testogel 50 mg  - a box of 30 X 5g sachets ( so it looks like the old version is still available here)

My prescribed dosage is 1ml daily or large pea sized blob

This is were I'm confused (not difficult) -  the consultant said,  one sachet will last 7 days but when I decant a 5g sachet the syringe shows 5mls which surely is 5 days?  Am I getting this wrong?  Also once decanted should I store in the fridge?

Thanks again for all help received.

The old 50mg sachets were prescribed at one tenth of a sachet per day, ie, 5mg. One seventh of a sachet is too high a dose. His maths has gone a bit wobbly. Where does he get his millilitres from? It doesn't come in mls. However, 5mg is about a large pea-size blob.

I’d been told in a Facebook meno group (the one ran by Diane ) that it’s 0.3 or 0.35 ml

That is correct for the new 40.5 mg sachets, but the OP has the old ones.
