Cyclogest dosage thoughts please
« on: January 28, 2023, 06:07:03 PM »

Hello again ladies

I posted a few days ago so thought a new post best as I now have received Cyclogest 200mg pessaries from my private Endo.

I’m just in a bleed and on all honesty haven’t used any prog for 5 weeks as I could no longer cope with provera.

I’m on 3 pumps of gel. My Endo has suggested splitting to 100 (cutting the pessary) and using 100mg per night but I’d like to start slow and low for a few weeks to see how my body copes.

I’m wondering what cyclogest users use both Conti and cyclical?

I knn no I there’s not many but any thoughts be very helpful.

Hi shopping queen

I see this post was missed but I answered in a long post about cyclogest on your other thread.

I definitely would not try to cut the cyclogest to give approx 100 mg especially with 3 pumps of gel. Like I said on the other thread when used cyclically I was prescribed 400 mg for 11 days per 28 day cycle, so for conti that would be 200 mg per day. However BMS suggest 200 mg - not sure if that is conti or cyclically - but since there is no 100 mg dose it probably isn't suitable except perhaps alternate day (under medical supervision).

Back in 2011, together with another MM member (maybe called Val?), we worked out how much we would need for continuous dose for low oestrogen dose, and I really can't remember how we calculated this - but I think for a very low oestrogen patch (25 mcg) we used a 200 mg capsule every 2 days, but this shouldn't be tried without supervision. I only did this for a few months because I needed to increase oestrogen back up to 50 mcg due to resurgence of flushes, and then of course needed to increase progesterone (which is when I discovered Utrogestan thanks to this forum!).

Thank you Hurdity! It is frustrating that it’s not clearer on the BMS info, isn’t it? It reads like it’s the same as Utro. I’ve replied on my other thread but wanted to say thank you here for your valued input, as always. I’ll contact Dr Currie to see what she suggests and make sure I follow the advice. I need to give it a go and fingers crossed this might suit! 🤞 x

Hi

I'm new to the Forum, and apologies for jumping on this thread.. I will navigate better in future!

Could I ask a question ( particularly to Hurdity who seems very knowledgeable on this topic from my reviews of older posts) regarding dosages of Androfem verse Testogel sachets? I'm current taking Androfeme cream 1% 0.75ml daily, but I have managed after much persistence to get my GP to prescribe Testogel 5g Sachet 1.0ml daily (large pea size blob)
Are these similar potency/dosage?  Thank you so much.

Hello Shoppingqueen.

I am a Cyclogest user which was prescribed by Newson Health Clinic. I am currently using a quarter of a 400mcg pessary on alternate nights along with half a 1mg Sandrena sachet, ie 50mcg of oestrogen. Apparently the pessaries come in 200mcg and 400mcg doses so I have always been instructed to cut them. At my most recent NH appointment my doctor was happy with my dosing as I haven't experienced any bleeding.

Cutting the pessaries is a faff and seems an amateurish way of taking any drug but it seems to work.

Perhaps try using 50mcg of Cyclogest for a while and  consult your Endo if you experience any problems or bleeding. Your Endo is giving you the same advice that my private meno clinic has given me so perhaps this regime isn't so unusual.

I hope this helps you in some way and I wish you well.

Kathleen thank you so much for help! My Endo has said 100 each day but if I find it too much to reduce to 50 and I can get a scan in 3 months. I’ve also sought advice from a gynae who has suggested the same protocol as Utro so I’m relieved I don’t need to start with 200. It would be too much. I have felt a bit off with the 100 so dropped to 50 yesterday and will see how it goes. It could be I have had a bit of a bug so will see how it goes.
I’m glad it’s working for you and thanks so much for getting back to me xx

Hi Coope
I think it might be worth Re posting as a new thread as your question might get lost on this thread. I use Testogel but haven’t a clue about the comparisons. Hurdity is very knowledgeable on this so if you post this again (without name checking Hurdity in the title as this is avoided on the site) then I’m sure it’ll be picked up 😁.
You look at the top bar on the right hand side I think 🤔 it says ‘new post’ and you can put this to the forum!

Hi there,
I’ve been on 200 on a Conti regime for quite a few months now, I’m on Lenzetto equivalent of around a 35 patch according to my meno consultant.
It has now been reduced to 200 every other night to try, which now matches the 100 per night I was on with Utro.
I get on ok with it but with very greasy hair/skin. Hoping the reduction hits the spot.
Meno consultant said dose of Prog will require to be higher when on higher estrogen. This is by far the best Prog I have been on.
Hope it works for you.
