Swapping Evorel to Estradot
« on: January 16, 2023, 04:14:15 PM »

I had no idea ahead of time, but my new prescription is for Estradot 50 instead of Evorel 50.  I'm not happy - I'm actually really worried. Can you help me know whether my concern is justified?

Things are only just about on an even keel and I'm waiting for my next appointment with the consultant at the menopause clinic. I've been better since changing the Evorel patch every 3 days instead of twice weekly, after taking posts on here. But I'm not steady.

Historically, I've reached badly to changes in medication - different brands of the same SSRI in particular. I don't have any intolerances that I know of, apart from bread / pasta which don't seem relevant. But a quick research tells me that people do find the two patches affect them quite differently.

I'm on the phone to the surgery now, in a long queue. I don't know why they would make a big change like that for somebody under a specialist clinic, with no consultation or even warning.

Hello and welcome. I am sorry they just changed your prescription without telling you. I hope they answer the phone soon and get this sorted out for you.

Hi sarah-epiekes - welcome and I'm so sorry to hear about your concerns and totally understand.  I was on Evorel at one point but changed as they did not suit me - yet I know people that Evorel works fantastically for.  It may be that Evorel isn't available maybe at the moment there seems to be so many shortages.  I am now on Estradot 50 which I am slowly adjusting to.tThge patches are much smaller and stay stuck on well too.  Like you I need to change them more regularly as they don't last the 3/4 days for me so I change them every 3 days too. Like you I am not good with changing medications either so I understand your worries.  It is such a shame they changed your prescription without telling you but would it be possible for your  menopause consultant to prescribe them for you instead this time?  I guess there might be a charge but at least you would get the ones you prefer to be on?  Hope so much it gets sorted for you xx

It’s because they don’t understand the difference. Evorel is made from yam and estradot from soy (the silver birch family). I could not tolerate estradot when mine were changed, I felt as though I’d be poisoned and read on here some people are allergic to the silver birch family.

That said you may be absolutely fine. Good luck with getting them changed x

Well, the patch came off - that never happened with Evorel. I put it on at about 4pm yesterday and don't know when it came off. I'll try again - my dosage is going to be all over the place.

The clinical prescriber is going to call me today, I'm told.

Here's an old thread about the difference. Just to add that I have a soy sensitivity but used Eatradot with no problems https://www.menopausematters.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,26924.0.html
