Newbie And advice
« on: January 13, 2023, 01:31:13 PM »

Hello, I’m new to the forum.
I’m 36 almost 37 married with 3 boys. I had a full hysterectomy before covid due to endometriosis and I am taking HRT. I was on tibolone and now on zumenon which suits me better.

I do need advice around libido. Which is basically none existing. At 37 I don’t want to be hanging up the love machine just yet  ;D otherwise my poor husband is going to get pretty fed up! When we do get down to business I do enjoy it but he has to initiate it otherwise I am just not fussed. This is only since I have had my surgery. Not really sure what to do? Any advice would be super  ;)

You may need to add testosterone. Transdermal hrt is safer than oral so it might be worth a chat with your gp.

Hi reena. After removal of your ovaries you are plunged into surgical menopause and you should have been prescribed testosterone to help with energy levels and libido alongside the HRT . The ovaries provide fifty percent of your testosterone so the sudden drop once you are going through surgical menopause can be really difficult for your body to cope with. I agree with Sheila. I also agree that you are too young to hang up the love machine. I'm 68 and still feel too young  ;D

Hello reena, I'm new here too but you'll get such good advice. I'd like to get prescribed testosterone too as my libido got up and left a few years ago and I hate it. I think doing something about that as early as possible has to be the best way forward.
I'm hoping my GP will refer me to the menopause specialist in my area as apparently they are the only ones which can prescribe it. Trouble is there is a 12 month waiting list  :-\
I'll let you know how I get on getting it. I'll be interested to hear if you manage to get it (testosterone that is  ;D ;D) in the meantime, lots to read here so grab a cuppa and have a good like round, it's fab  :)

Hi reena2023,

The advice about testosterone is spot on. Testosterone is as much a female hormone as a male one; we produce a great deal less than men though quite a bit more than our own oestrogen.

GPs can prescribe testosterone off licence (because it comes in male doses that need to be modified for women) or they can give a private prescription for Androfeme - testosterone designed for women and imported from Australia. However, they tend not to prescribe unless advised by a menopause specialist and, even then, some won't prescribe it. You will need to sound out your GP to see a) whether they would prescribe without a specialist's advice, b) whether they would prescribe with a specialist's advice, or c) they will never prescribe it. Then you would know where you stand.

Testosterone is not like oestrogen, in my experience. I use Androfeme. It is a slow burner and it took about 4 months for me to see a difference. Other formulas may work quicker - others can comment. For me, the benefits have been: improved mood, clearer thinking, better muscle tone, more responsive re. sex and more likely to initiate it. It did not turn me into a raving sex maniac! Nor did I grow a beard as one doctor said I would.

It's worth a try. Androfeme is expensive - £92 for a 3-month tube plus the cost of a private prescription. Others, available on the NHS, obviously cheaper and also cheaper by private prescription, eg Testogel.

Thank you everyone for the replies, think definitely may either visit the GP or go down the private route in terms of testosterone as I think I’m still too young yet to lose interest in the sexy side of the bedroom  ;D
