When do I ask for a referral to menopause clinic?
« on: January 02, 2023, 10:50:33 PM »

Feeling fed up 😩
I started HRT LAST Feb (evorel patches ans Utrogestan)and it all started well with reduction of most of my symptoms, but it didn’t last and after increasing to max dose of evorel patches with no improvement, my GP switched me to oestrogel which I started about 10 days ago. I have noticed an improvement in the quality of my sleep and I am sleeping a bit longer. I had a few night sweats just after the switch, but these have now settled. But about 3 days ago I noticed a new symptom - I hesitate to call it anxiety as I am not overly worrying about anything- my head is fine, but my heart feels like it’s racing (pulse is totally normal) like when you are just about to go into an exam.. it’s horrible..
I’ve since read this seems to be a common side effect of the gel..

My question is how long to i leave it before getting in touch with the GP.. what is next re: HRT? Should I ask for a referral to specialist menopause clinic… am I ever going to feel ok again?!

Thanks for your support lovely people xx

I am really sorry to hear you are experiecing this. I would tell your GP how you feel tomorrow and ask to be seen at a menopause clinic. The wait can take a year so best to ask as soon as possible.

With a menopause clinic they can prescribe higher then 100 ostrogen patches if that is what you need.

I hope you manage to get some sleep.

It’s possible you could be on too high a dose - more is not always better. I’ve seen it on here so many times when ladies go too high too quickly and experience negative side effects.  It’s just a suggestion but what about reducing your gel slightly and see if the racing heart subsides x

Hi @perinowpist

I’m hoping that’s it - I was on Evorel 100 but don’t think I was absorbing much.. GP put me on 2 pumps of gel, so last night I reduced to 1 pump - I woke up early, but did manage to get back to sleep so feel ok today - still a bit heart racer, but I’ll try this for a few days and see how I get on…

Hi Raykay

I don’t actually use gel (I use patches) but I believe 2 pumps is equivalent to a 50 patch (someone may be along to correct/confirm this). Therefore, if you’ve switched from a 100 patch (which would be 4 pumps) to 2 pumps that might explain the palpitations as your body adjusts to the difference in doses. Hope this is not too confusing x
