Provera help!!
« on: December 29, 2022, 12:27:20 PM »

Hello ladies
I seem to be posting a lot these days- needless to say things are not good 😌
I’ve upped gel to 4 pumps and added provera a couple of weeks ago as I had a coil removed. I don’t know if I’m having terrible side effects as I’ve had broken sleep- with heat- waking every 2-3 hours. No flushing in the day. I also feel very dizzy and a bit strange like out of body. I don’t tolerate utrogestan either.
Has anyone had any experiences of provera like this? I was told to take 5mg continuous but I think I’m going to stop for a few days.
I noticed some used much less for a shorter span (I’d be happy with sequential) my only other option is to go back to Femoston 2/10 which suited 3 years ago, but I know I’ll need to top up on gel and I did this last time under a private Endo. Now, I think I have virtually zero estrogen going off blood tests last year with patches etc which I didn’t absorb well. I take Levothyroxine so really wanted to avoid oral. My only alternative is to go back to the coil. I know I can’t go too long without prog as I recently had to have a biopsy for a 4mm lining. But I simply can’t function without HRT. Or maybe it’s time to ditch it. At a loss.
My anxiety is also terrible and I’m having dramatic mood swings. I’m not me.
Any thoughts would be great!  Xx

I am sorry you have had a bad reaction. I too had a bad reaction to provera. I cannot quite remember the details but I know it made me suicidal. This does not mean you have to ditch HRT. Please try not to panic as many of us have this reaction to progesterone. How are you with the mini pill? Have you ever taken it? I ask as you can take 2 cerezette as the progesterone part of HRT.

Hi thank you for replying Flossieteacake

I took the mini pill for many years and was fine. I think it was Noriday though. I remember trying Cerezette and I had very heavy bleeding, but that was a long, long time ago. Thank you for the reassurance. I used to love the prog phase of my oral HRT. I don’t know what’s going on with my body but what I do know is several attempts with utro have not worked orally or vaginally. What do you use for the prog of you don’t mind me asking?

Oh I see. If you experienced heavy bleeding with cerezette perhaps it is best not to try that then.

I have a huge problem with progesterone and I have not found any I can tolerate. I am waiting for advice on what to do about it. I have a menopause appointment in June. I have tried every type available and all make me suicidal.

This is awful for you and I think 🤔 be developed a similar issue after years in the pill, mini pill and combined oral HRT. I’m not taking the Provera for a few days to see what gives and I’ll have to think as well. I’m not under the meno clinic unfortunately and have to rely on the pharmacist at the GP who sticks to text book obviously. She wouldn’t even prescribe 100mcg patch as I’m 54!! There was no point in arguing so I just bought on line when trialling them and accepted the 75 she reluctantly issued.
Are you doing the same re dropping the prog or pushing through for now?
Eek June!! What do do in the meantime? It’s infuriating that we have so little choice. I really wanted the dydrogesterone but as we know it’s not available in the Uk. We have but 4 choices and the pill you mentioned. 🙄 xx

How frustrating for you. Its such a shame when GPs do not try to find out about HRT and just insist they are right.

I am just using oestrogen patches. The meno clinic have not been helpful for me. I have had a few appointments with them now. I think my case is too complex and im made to feel an annoying pain.

I am sorry you are struggling. Progesterone seems to really cause a lot of issues for us.

I can completely relate to this and I’m sorry you’ve not had a positive experience with the clinic. When I was referred years ago, by the time I got the appointment through I’d muddled through myself and got some balance, but they didn’t tell me anything I didn’t know. I think it’s hard when you have to go via a specialist to go ‘off licence’ Eg very long cycle etc but we have to pay for it, and for the scans to check. I’m out of money paying privately for this and another issue. It’s not right any of it.
I hope you are doing ok though and the patches are doing their thing 🤞 x

Thank you. That is very kind of you to say. I am with an NHS clinic so luckily I do not have to pay for their service. I find the patches are so helpful.  :)

My GPs and meno clinic are aware of everything and I do not think anything else can be done. Thank you for thinking of me.
