can you use melatonin with oestrogen patches?
« on: December 28, 2022, 04:05:06 AM »

Hi
All the best to everyone.
Can you use melatonin with oestrogen patches and utrogestan?
I would like to try it for sleep rather than prescription antihistamines.
Thanks

Hi Dandelion,
Where do you get the melatonin from ? I am facing MAJOR sleep issues right now and take phenergan to get to sleep! It’s awful and I don’t know what to
do.

Thanks.

Hi, yes you can use melatonin while on HRT but many GPs will not prescribe it (Circadin 2mg) if you are under 55.

There are sleep remedies available online that contain melatonin. If you were in the USA you could buy buckets of the stuff off the shelf.

I tried Circadin at one point but it gave me dreadful nightmares, so not for me, but I know others who find it very helpful.

Someone has bought it online from the US, I can't remember who it was but perhaps a search might bring up something useful.

Melatonin is brilliant and yes, you can take it with HRT.  I like it because it makes me completely crash out for 8 hours.

I buy mine in a pharmacy in Gibraltar but you can buy in online from Biovea.

Mary G, any idea which Biovea melatonin product to begin with? Do you think 10mg would be too much to start with?

Thanks.

10 mg is a lot !! You can buy lower doses from Biovea. Takes about 2 weeks to arrive. I buy a job lot as the postage for 1 pot is very high. Start low then you can always take more if you need too. I find 4.5 mg works well for me but I have a week off it every few months so my body doesn't get used to it. It's normally a week where I'm not in work much and I don't have to drive much!

Ah scrubdub , you are the person to speak to then!

Okay, so do you think 5 mg to begin with ? Which one, there are so many! How long does it take to work? Any side effects?

You could message me if easier.

Thanks

Any brand works for me - I buy the bionva own brand 3mg - I've tried the gumming and the ones you suck but they didn't work for me! I started at 3 mg which gave ne 2-3  hours of sleep but the 1/2 of 3mg tab (so its 4.5mg) gives me 7 hours! I take it 20 mins before I go to bed so by the time I've brushed my teeth and read for a bit I'm feeling tired. I'm in bed by 9.30 pm anyway. I don't feel groggy in the mornings but I'm awake by 5am so I'm had a shower a few cups of tea and breakfast.
I'd start low as 10mg would be too high.
Hope thats helpful.

Okay Mary, Thankyou.
There are so many types on the BIOVEA website, I don’t know which to buy?

Thankyou Mary and Scrubdub
I will aim for a low dose as you suggested. I need to be alert for my job, so can’t afford to be foggy the next day.

Hi
I don't have any melatonin yet, as I was unsure whether to buy, in case it interacted negatively with my oestrogen patches.
I am not sleeping, dreaming, and I wake up hot still, I don't know why.
I tried to increase my patch, a few times, and got a brown discharge, so, my womb thinks it has enough oestrogen, yet the rest of my body doesn't think it has enough.
I started swimming regularly to help, I am still waiting for benefits, as I only started this activity more frequently 2 days ago.
I think I would go to Holland and Barrett or amazon.

I am over 55.
I am a bit put off contacting GP surgery, because of the phone, it's hard to get through, and my surgery is half an hour walk away.
I did not realise it was hard to get hold of in the UK, I never looked yet.
Sorry you had dreadful nightmares.

Thank you. I just looked online, and, yeah, I dunno why it's so hard to get hold of in the UK.
Thank you, I will look on Bioeva.
I don't understand why I am not tired in bed, yet spaced out in the morning.
I once pulled an all nighter, in preference to tossing and turning, and waking up anxious and sweaty. It was good for my mood, yet, I nearly suddenly went down like a sack of spuds in the afternoon.
