sore womb and ovaries
« on: December 21, 2022, 02:49:52 PM »

Hi there
I'm on 75 evoral patch and provera 12 days a month.
Really struggling with the provera, hellish awfulness and waiting to see gynae and asked for cyclogest, god knows how long it'll be? tried utrogestan and was slurring my words by day 3 with intrusive thoughts. Provera is the same just not the slurring.
pain in ovaries and womb is constant, low back, groin, making my legs weak. Gp aware and has referred for scan but nothing else. My surgery none of them know anything about it and stipulate that when i speak to them.
Could only tolerate 1 day of provera this month and had a short light period last week. GP is aware i'm not taking it but say the gynae will have to prescribe cyclogest and dont suggest anything else.
I'm in alot of pain. Hurts to turn over in bed, from lying to sitting to standing. I can get going once I'm up. Sunday i Had a lot to do and was struggling to bend over after being busy for a while. Then Monday it was better again. I'm so confused and getting waves of dread and anxiety. Dreading Xmas.
Anyone help? Know what it is? What can i do if anything while waiting for scan and to see gynae?
thanks

Hello Jules and welcome to the forum. I am so sorry you have had this awful reaction to the provera and ultrogestan. Do not worry as there are other kinds of progesterone you can try. For example, the mini pill (cerezette) can be doubled and taken as the progesterone part of HRT. Many women cannot tolerate Ultrogestan and Provera so you are not alone.

It is frustrating they have not referred you to a menopause clinic as they admit they do not know anything about HRT. Can you send an email to ask to see an NHS menopause clinic? A gyane does not have the same knowledge about HRT as a menopause specialist.

You took 1 provera this month so has this helped with the pain you are in?

MayB ask for a referral to a dedicated menopause clinic as gynaes often don't know much about peri..  If you are in such pain, I would stop until after C.mas.  Consider why you began HRT - some find that keeping a mood/food/symptom diary of use.

As oestrogen levels drop the muscles may become lax = aches and pains.  Have U tried pain relief?

Ultrasound Direct who are in various locations do pelvic scans under 'health scans' on their website if that is a possible option for you.  Maybe for peace of mind with the holidays coming up.

Thanks for your replies.
My GP is awful. I’m now not on any progesterone at all. They say they don’t know anything about menopause/peri and so just don’t do anything. Honestly can’t believe it. So they are prescribing evorel 75 patch to me and that’s it. I’ve had the trans vaginal exam and she said my endometrium looked cystic. The GP have said they’ll call me on the 6th March!
Still waiting to hear from gynaecologist and there are no menopause clinics in my borough. I’m in tower hamlets.
I’m still getting the pains in lower abdomen. I’m wondering if I have endometriosis?
I don’t know what to do.
Can anyone help with any suggestions? Thanks

Hi

It used to be the case that you can elect where to be referred.  I'm in Shropshire (what talented gynae in their right mind would take a job in Telford???) and insisted on Chelsea and Westminster, although they now have a very long waiting list.

Can you afford to go private?  Sometimes a terrifying letter to the GP from a consultant can do wonders.

Unopposed oestrogen if there's a question mark about endometriosis doesn't sound like a genius idea from your GP!  Are they not capable of reading the menopause guidelines?  https://thebms.org.uk/publications/nice-guideline/ and also https://www.nice.org.uk/guidance/ng73/resources/endometriosis-diagnosis-and-management-pdf-1837632548293

Some of the more knowledgeable ladies here will hold you hand, hang in there.

What do they mean by it looking cystic? How long have you been on oestrogen without any progesterone?

I really am sorry you have such an unsupportive GP.

I am wondering if it may help to try the progesterone only pill, destrogestal as they help to reduce bleeding and two pills a day is enough for the progesterone part of HRT.

Perhaps  enter endo in the search bar here and see if the posts sound like your symptoms.

Hi Jules321

 :welcomemm:

Sorry to hear about this. Did they tell you the thickness of the lining of your uterus when they did the vaginal examination?

Also do you know where you are in menopause in terms of your own cycle ie whether you are ovulating? If so at least you will be producing your own progesterone some months.

You do need to get back to them to say you have to be prescribed a progestogen and that you need an urgent referral especially if there are abnormalities in your endometrium and you are in such pain - surely they should refer you to a specialist gynaecologist for hysteroscopy?

Do you feel able to be this assertive or if not is there someone that can go with you to help?

All the best

Thanks for the replies and suggestions.
I’m going to contact a GP this week I think.
They didn’t say the thickness, just that the endometrium looked cystic. I think I was scared to ask anymore.
I’m afraid that when I do speak to a doctor they’re just going to talk me away again saying they don’t know what to do, again.
I need to be assertive and get to pushing this along.
I’ve got a smear test this week too so at least I’m getting all the tests done. I’ll ask about a hysteroscopy too.

I wish you luck at your appointment. I struggle to be assertive too. It can help if you can have somebody to take with you to fight your corner.
