Hello and welcome to the forum. I am sorry to hear of what you are going through. It sounds to be like you could benefit from HRT. HRT can be so helpful for low moods during menopause. A menopause specialist will be more helpful then a gynaecologist but I know in some areas it is not possible to see one. You will find much support here. :)

Hi!  peri-menopause is when our periods begin to wax and wane: The Change : as well as noticing other symptoms, i.e. flushing, mood changes, dry skin .......

 :welcomemm:

Some find that keeping a mood/food/symptom diary of use.  A menopause specialist should give good advice, Gynaes don't always have much idea  ::).  Which symptom would you like to ease first?

Browse round.  Do read the 'bladder issues' and threads about vaginal atrophy: 4 warned is 4 armed ;-)

2024 is a long while to wait for an appt..  I have found 'feminax' helpful for period pains, your Pharmacist could give advice if that doesn't work.  HRT can also help.

No wonder you feel low with all that going on. I think HRT could be helpful.

Hi! Most of the symptoms you describe sound like perimenopause, when everything is all over the place and HRT would likely help. As others have said, a menopause specialist would be a better bet than a gynaecologist.

Also, February 2024?! I know things are difficult for the NHS but given the pain you are in it sounds a bit more urgent than that. Have you had an ultrasound scan recently, especially given your medical history?

I know how difficult it is to challenge doctors. The doctor may be right about the Mirena coil helping but there are loads of other options. And the Mirena is unlikely to help mood etc. You usually need oestrogen for that. I agree with others that you need to see a good menopause specialist. Maybe there is a Menopause Clinic in your area that you could be referred to? Also, I know it seems odd, but sometimes family planning clinics can also be helpful.

This website has the facility to email Dr Heather Currie (its founder) for a fee that is far less than a private consultation. Around £35 maybe? Someone can maybe confirm. She is a menopause specialist and could maybe help you with what to say to/ask the doctor?

Just checked - £30 to consult Dr Currie who is a gynaecologist and menopause specialist. See the Contact section.

Hi Nikki218

I'm sorry to hear you're suffering.

I just wanted to say that I contacted Dr Currie by email last week and she is fantastic - she replied within 2 days and provided way more information than I expected in a very understandable and kind way. You can tell she really wants to help women.

If you send her an email, give her as much of your medical history, current meds info as possible.

I was having terrible peri symptoms and started on HRT a month ago. It's fantastic and I think I'll be on it for a long time!

Hope you get sorted ASAP.
