Will the bleeding ever stop? Now a cancer scare.
« on: December 10, 2022, 09:21:28 AM »

I’ve been given provera but I’m still losing bright red blood. After being on it for 4 days

Normally I’m on patches and Utrogestan.

I’ve been bleeding more or less since September but earlier in the year I had a 22 day period.

I had a coil but it came out after a week.

I wonder if vaginal Utrogestan will turn things off? Or norisithone?

I had a scan in the summer, a small fibroid but not significant. Gynaecologist at the time told me to lose weight “try keto” were his exact words.
That was for heavy periods, flooding. But at least it stopped back then!

I’m now having continuous bleeding and I’m going to be referred for a biopsy under the two week wait, we all know with a that means!

On HRT for 3 years, was heaving regular periods when I started it. Age 52. No idea when my mother went though menopause

I am getting very stressed.
Should have tried keto!!

That 'means' what ?  It's protocol.  It may be the fibroid causing the bleeding due to hormonal upheaval, it doesn't have to be any particular size to become aggravated.

Waiting for scans etc., can be stressful.  Add to that the 'time of year' plus the economic problems, it doesn't take much 4 the old brain to start whizzing  >:(  ::)

I am really sorry to hear you are bleeding like this. I can understand you are stressed as I would be too. I personally would not try keto as it is very extreme and difficult. Is it possible for you to use the mini pill to help with the bleeding? I know some cannot tolerate it but just thought I would mention it.

I’m at a loss what to do.

Surely there must be something to take to make the bleeding stop.
I was told the fibroid was 1 cm but I guess it could have grown? The gynaecologist dismissed it.

I can’t really do  a keto  as I’m vegetarian but I can try to lose weight now if that isn’t too late?  I mean obviously weight loss is generally good but I don’t see it switching the bleeding off on the next couple of days.

I think the GP has run out of ideas.

Maybe noristithone would work better? Or back to Utrogestan.

The bleeding makes it difficult to leave the house, which sounds mad but I can flood and cramp at any time.

My periods were like that for many years  :-\  :'(. I would move and clots would leave my vagina in a blob, it never reached the floor but it was awful.

If you have 'noristithone' - is that the drug to ease heavy bleeding?  Then use it.

MayB ask for a referral to a dedicated menopause specialist clinic: Gynaecologists and GPs often don't know much about menopause!

It is never too late to lose weight. Not now though, I would wait until the end of January.  Keeping a diary of your daily/nightly food intake over the next few weeks will see what you actually eat that might not be the best ;-) : then don't buy it.  If it isn't there you won't reach for it.  MinL used a weight watchers idea of weighing everything she ate each evening: butter on a saucer for example, when the saucer was empty that was it for that day.  It worked for her and she did keep the weight off.  Lots of fruits and veg., finding different ways of cooking it .... we love veg. roasted in the oven or stir fried in soy sauce (says I, who never cooks; I have a Chef don't you know  ;) ) as jaypo will testify  ;D

I don't think that dieting will make any impact on heavy bleeding.  Keeping hydrated will help as the body loses a lot of liquid.  In the New Year find out if you are anaemic?

Get those feet up in front of the 📺.  Rest as much as you are able to.

Thanks!

I’m going to make an effort with weight loss. I haven’t got anything less I can do to help myself until I get the tests and then the results

It isn't something I've experienced but I think you can use Tranexamic acid to stop the bleeding. Are you on a conti or sequi regime? You may not be meno yet so a sequi regime may suit you better. A mirena is the best option for controlling bleeding (though obviously if it remains in place!). Did they have any idea why it fell out and if it was likely to do it again? Utro isn't the best at controlling bleeding though some people have used a double dose successfully. Vaginal should mean more gets to where it's needed. I think norethisterone can be more successful.
How much oestrogen are you on? Is there any scope for reducing it or do your symptoms return? It makes fibroids grow so it's good you're going for another scan.
Being a healthy weight is always good but I'm not convinced it will solve this problem.

Little steps.  With that blood loss make sure that you eat plenty of iron based veg..  Not that I'm particularly good with greens  :-X

What dose of provera are you on? We're you told it will stop the bleeding? Are you on conti or sequi?

Bleeding is very annoying. I had it on conti Hrt but things were ok on the sequi regime. The two week referral is purely because the guidelines have to be followed so try not to worry.
