Changing from gel and tablets to patches
« on: December 08, 2022, 01:27:48 PM »

Hello
I hope you can help.
For the last 3 months, I've been on a regime of oestrogel gel daily and utrogestan progesterone tablets days 14-28
I have been prescribed patches to try instead of the above - 14 days oestrogen only patch, 14 days combined oestrogen and progesterone patch
Tonight is day 28 of my utrogestan tablets so on my old regime, I would have started the 2 weeks 'oestrogen gel only' tomorrow.
So instead, I plan to start the 2 weeks of oestrogen only patches tomorrow.
My only reservation is that the patches say to start on days 1-5 of my period.  In theory I should have a period AFTER the utrogestan but I had it during the utrogestan and it ended a couple of days ago.  Do you think I'll be fine to start the patches tomorrow even though I'm not on my period, so essentially I'll just go straight from my current regime to the new patch regime.
Any advice welcome

Thanks

Yes I think you’re right to do what you suggest. Start the oestrogen only patch when you would have started the oestrogen only part of taking the gel .

That is exactly what I did in the same situation :)
Good luck with the patches!

You'd normally start the patch on day 1 (the first day of your bleed) so that your own cycle and the hrt cycle are in step. If you have very variable cycle lengths you not be able to sync them but if they're reasonably regular I would adjust the hrt cycle to fit in with your own (my own cycle was always stronger than the hrt one).
