Advice on too much eostrogen
« on: December 13, 2022, 08:36:20 AM »

Hi I am new to the forum and looking for some advice.
Have been on HRT for a few years I am 58.
I recently changed from 4 pumps of estrogel , as I was not absorbing and having hot flushes.
Went on to 100mx patch, been on this for 7 weeks and feel better apart from very tender breasts, thinking maybe I am on too much estrogen??
I am about to start testosterone gel and understand you need to be fully estogenised to tolerate side effects of estrogen.
Would be grateful for any advice
Thx

Hi.  Morning.  It mayB that upping the dose was 'too much' for the body all at once?

Could you alternate the patch, i.e. leave an extra 36 hours when you change it?  Hopefully someone will be along who has tweaked their dose with more advice.

Who has prescribed the testosterone?

Hi, and welcome from another newbie!

In my experience, 7 weeks is maybe still a little bit early to assess whether the patch is providing too much oestrogen. Maybe give it another couple of weeks and see if the pain settles (unless it is unbearable). If you are still in pain then 75mcg may be more what you need.

It is difficult to equate patches and gel doses since we all absorb different types of HRT in different ways. So you might be absorbing better on the patches.

Re testosterone, I wouldn't worry too much about that. It is a 'slow burner' and if you are on 75mcg oestrogen or more then should have enough oestrogen. Took 4 months for me to see any effects from the testosterone (Androfeme in my case).

All part of the 'try it and see' of HRT. It is always scary when you introduce something new with HRT.  :)

Hi both
Thanks for prompt reply!
My Gp prescribed testosterone.
I have been worried about where the estrogen is too much for my age?
Doesn’t seem to be much guidance only seems they advise to take less as you get older???

Hello Cotts and welcome to the forum. I have seen many members on this forum who need more oestrogen and who are your age. With the tender breasts, this can settle but for me I get tender breasts from time to time. If you wanted to you could try slightly reducing your patch and seeing how you feel but I personally would not as you said you feel good otherwise.

Do GPs prescribe testosterone  :-\ ....... I thought that one had to see a Menospecialist who will instruct the GP  ?

HRT can protect heart and bones.  Trial and Error to find a regime that might work.

Let us know how you get on.

Thanks, I do feel so much better, I will give it more time and maybe reduce to 75 if need to .

A bit of tweaking can often work.  Writing down what U do is the way to go to keep track. ;-)
