Utrogestan & Osophegus
« on: November 20, 2022, 07:57:27 PM »

Hi , I’m really looking for advice ,I am currently on Everol 75 & four months ago was advised by my menopause Dr to increase the continuous Utrogestan from 100mg to 200mg due to break through bleeds .  However just lately I’m experiencing trouble swallowing them & tend to be getting frequent heart burn
Could this be Utrogestan related ?

Hi Dotty , yes I always make sure that I take them on an empty stomach
I just find that they lodge in my throat a bit now even though I wash them down with plenty of water

Hi Trixiebell,
I think that it's possible that Utrogestan may cause this, some ladies therefore take it vaginally. I had issues with heartburn and posted something recently about it on this tread https://www.menopausematters.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,64008.0.html

May I ask you if your menopause specialist recommended any tests for your breakthrough bleeding or just prescribed higher Utrogestan dose? I am in the similar situation and my GP has not recommended a scan ( breaktrough bleeding after 10 months on continuous HRT) so I just wanted to see if this is common occurence.

All the best

I must admit that sometimes I feel like the utrogesgen gets stuck. I have to have another drink.

Stella2….I’ve had a lot of breakthrough bleeding and no cause has ever been found. x

Thank you Dotty, I am glad nothing has been found. I am just concerned with my GP's advice as she decided not to check the bleeding cause at all...not sure if that's the best advice

Hi ladies , Thankyou for your replies , I’ve had 2 pelvic scans which was normal thank goodness . My menopause Dr said maybe I should have a hysteroscopy which I really don’t fancy , the problems swallowing does worry as I read somewhere else that Utrogestan can cause this so it can’t be good long term .

I haven’t had any spotting for a good few weeks until today it’s very light but there
The only other thing that was suggested was a hysteroscopy & to have a mirena fitted at the same time .
It’s never ending .

Hi Trixiebell,
I spoke to a different GP today and they said that bleeding should be checked so I am going for a checkup first, starting from there. I hope your bleeding will stop now when you are taking more Utrogestan.
Unfortunately I don't have experience with taking Utrogestan vaginally but I think there will be some threads here about it.

I’ve had a few pelvic scans and they were clear , I haven’t had spotting for a month until yesterday it’s so frustrating.
The swallowing and indigestion bothers me and I’m not sure if it’s Utrogestan related or something else
Good luck with your tests it’s precautionary so try not to worry
