Double dose of mini pill
« on: November 09, 2022, 09:38:19 PM »

Hi! I’ve just finally had my appointment with HRT specialist. I have already been on Evorel Conti (also taking mini pill) for nearly 4 weeks, but have bled most of that time so she has told me to take 2 mini pills a day instead of just the one (desogestrol) just wondered if anyone else was on this regime? Or taking double the mini pill dose?
Thanks 😊

Hello Joeyjo. If you are going to take two mini pills a day then that will be the progesterone part of the HRT. You will then need to switch to oestrogen only patch rather then the Evorel conti. I have heard of taking two mini pills a day. I hope this works out better for you then the conti.

Have a look at this document. Page 7 It says 150mcg of desogestrel is sufficient .

Thanks! Do you think double the desogestrol should stop me bleeding? I’m on desogestrol plus Conti and still bleeding 😢. I’m also worried wether doubling will give me side effects like I had when I first started the mini pill x

I think double desogestrel and Evorel,Conti is a lot of progesterone. It can take 6 months for bleeding to settle on any new HRT.

Are you post menopause ?

Hi Nicodemus

This document says that single desogestrel is not enough to protect the endometrium. I would check that you’re taking enough . x

No I’m not post menopause. The specialist said though because I hadn’t had periods for over a year, even though it was due to the mini pill, that Conti should be used. I was put on the mini pill originally for PMDD so I don’t do well with a Sequi regime I have to have constant so not to have to many fluctuations, just a steady dose. I was hoping I wouldn’t have any trouble with bleeding as was already on the mini pill so thought it would be less likely

It could be the Norethisterone in the patch that is causing the bleeding. x
