Hysterectomy or not!!???
« on: October 24, 2022, 09:26:07 AM »

Ladies, I am so confused, and need some advice please.......
I have been on a very bumpy peri journey so far (4 years +) I have tried with various forms of hrt and the merina coil. Each caused its own set of problems, but mainly heavy and very painful withdrawal bleeds and brea through bleeding throughout every regime I have tried.
Currently on conti patches but again have had bleeds for the last 9 months at various times. I have a constant heavy feeling in my low tummy. Recent scan shows the lining to be ok but the uterus had become bulky.
Recent bloods showed my estrogen levels to be low for someone on HRT.
So I paid to see a private obs and gynea specialist. Who agreed that the womb was bulky as he could feel it and that he honestly did not know which form or dose of HRT to try next that would not lead to more bleeding. He suggested a hysterectomy.
He aid that this way I could increase the estrogen without worrying about the progesterone, which he feels is causing all my problems. Initially I was all for it but am now having doubts. I know I need more estrogen as my body is crying out for it.
Just wondered what you ladies thought about it.....I really do not know which way to go, but feel so low after 4 years off struggling. I am nearly 51 and want my life back xxxx

Hi
I would  go for a hysterectomy. Reason being, you need oestrogen, but the bleeding is stopping you getting the benefits. It may be big surgery, but at least you wouldn’t bleed again?

I bled a lot on HRT with utrogestan. I also need the oestrogen, but couldn’t cope with the frequency of bleeds. I opted for a mirena in the end and luckily the bleeds are less, if at all.. I still haven’t managed to optimise my oestrogen, but it does mean that I can tinker with doses, without the fear of bleeding every 5 minutes.

Food for thought, but if it were me, I would go for the hysterectomy. Also if your oestrogen levels are low, it might be that you are not absorbing well? Another thing to factor in; that you might need a higher dose than you are currently on?

Best of luck 🤞 x

I would also opt for a hysterectomy if I was given the choice.  My next step is the mirena which I am not convinced about but I know I will be told I have to give it a go before they consider anything else.

Do you know what's causing the bulky uterus mandss? Usually it's due to fibroids which can cause bleeding.

Taz, I do have fybroids but nothing major.
Have another appt with  the consultant in December, so will go through in depth everything. He has said that straight after the opp he will increase my estrogen, so thats positive.
