Can anyone help???
«

Hi ladies,
I was wondering if anyone can help me with my blood test results. They came back as the following:
Serum ferritin- 43ng/ml
Serum folate- 4.6ng/ml
Serum oestradiol level-208 pmol/L
Serum TSH-1.31 miu/L
I think the one that concerns me most is the ferritin. Am I right that this seems quite low? Any interpretation on any of these number welcome. 😊

Hi
Your ferritin is on the low side but the reference range is between 13-150.
Your oestriadol level is low. It should be around 350 or higher - not sure if you’re on HRT?

Thank you Nik!
Hmm, I thought the ferritin looked on the low side. Not sure whether it warrants treatment or not.
I am on HRT- but it seems that I’m not quite at that point dosage wise if it should be around 350. I’ve had some weird advice from the consultant about chopping up the Conti patches to add more. I fear this might make me ridiculously sleepy with the amount of norethisterone

Hi
My ferritin was borderline and the doctor prescribed some to stop it getting worse so that may be an option.
I wouldn’t cut up the patch. You won’t need the extra progesterone. Adding oestrogen gel would probably be best!

Hi Kat,
My ferritin was a little below yours at around 31and my menopause specialist suggested that while it was technically within the range, I might benefit from an iron supplement. She suggested any reputable brand would do. I take mine in the evening as I read that tea and coffee can stop you absorbing it.
Re the oestrogen levels it says here
https://www.chelwest.nhs.uk/professionals/gp-advice-and-troubleshooting-guide-for-hrt-in-primary-care
(and I've read it elsewhere too) that any level greater than 200 would be considered therapeutic- if your symptoms are being controlled. Up to 800 is considered ok if you need it.
Good luck x
