Decisions decisions,,,
« on: October 12, 2022, 07:35:26 PM »

So I’ve now been on a new regime , Oestrogen and Ultrogestan for 2 months, I’m actually doing okay on it , however I find it a pain in the butt and would like to go back to 1 tablet, was previously on Kliovance and before that Angelique, I’ve tried researching both of these but can’t find much on them ,, is anybody still on 1 tablet as opposed to the gel etc..My only menopause symptom is really the hot flushes , I can control them eventually with all the meds I’ve been on, I’m just sick of the waiting for gel to dry routine although it’s only 10 mins and inserting the progestron vaginally , am I being stupid , Many thanks

No one is stupid, asking and sharing help others.   You are over thinking mayB?  HRT is notoriously difficult sometimes to find a regime that works.  If it helps ........... why did you change from tablet to gel anyway?  What could you do in those 10 mins whilst the gel is drying; check e-mails, wash your hair, relax with a cuppa ............ is this applied at night or morning .......... you can tell that I've no idea  ::)

Have you put the product names into the search box on the Forum?

Hi Kenny, I found the gel a pain at first but then I got into a morning routine of applying it thinly so it dries in 5 minutes and while waiting I do my pelvic floor exercises, put my deodorant on, etc and then get dressed so it just became normal and I don’t think about it now. I think you can get natural remedies for hot flushes. My Mum’s friend liked Menopace I think it’s called but I’ve never used it. I hope that helps x

Thanks for your replies ladies, my GP asked me to come off tablet form as the gel is much safer,, I do understand that, I stayed on Kliovance for another 3 months before I changed, I made that decision as my hot flushes were really bad once again, I’ve been on HRT for many years and every now and again it seems to stop working but then starts again, I know I’m probably wanting to change back for the wrong reasons. Just to get help from you ladies helps a lot.

Hi if Kliovance stopped working it’s probably likely that you needed a higher dose which you can get from Kliofem or Elleste Duet Conti.

It’s correct that the gel is probably safer but if you’re happy with tablets then stay on them. There’s a well known menopause specialist whose mother is still on Kliovance at the age of 78.

Hi Kenny l'm on tablet hrt, and have been for many years. I  used lndivina in the past but had some bleeding issues on it so am now on Femostan Conti which seems to suit me.  l didn't get on with the patch and uterogestan which l also tried, I think it was the uterogestan component that was the problem, it gave me nagging pains in my abdomen which took a while to go away even after l stopped taking it. l had a scan and all was fine so l was allowed to go back on the tablet hrt. I've never tried the gel, not sure what other progesterone l could have alongside. The Femostan conti is quite a low dose though so not sure if it is enough for your needs.

You could try a patch - still transdermal so safer than oral. I was on gel for a couple of years and changed only because of the mountain of plastic waste but I'm really enjoying not being slathered in gel twice a day. If vaginal utro doesn't suit you you could either use it orally or have a combined patch.

Can I ask what tablet form you are taking please. Bizarrely I’ve had an appointment with a breast clinic today as I felt as though my left breast was heavy and sore , apparently I’ve got a lot of dense tissue which he thinks is probably down to my change in HRT, it is nothing to be concerned with, in fact he said to stay on HRT as the benefits far out way the negatives. Women on HRT have 1% chance of developing breast cancer. After my ultrasound I chatted to a lovely nurse who had had the same issue, she suggested the patch you change twice a week, it was good to hear as I was going to ask GP about going back on tablet form , I may just mention what options I have before I decide. Thanks Ladies , once again. Xx

Thanks Sheila , it may sound pathetic but I really can’t be bothered with applying gel everyday. I suppose I’m quite lucky as my only menopause symptoms are hot sweats.I’m not too concerned about trying a different method , the patch you change twice a week sounds good.xx

Kenny - mayB consider whether U need any form of HRT?  Could you 'manage' your hot flushes, of course it does depend on which job you are in.

10 mins isn't a long time  :-\.  At least we have in general, access to several forms of HRT delivery, unlike some countries.

Thanks CKLD , for years I have tried to come off HRT just to see if I need it, unfortunately I get the most dreadful headaches, I usually preserve for 5 days, as soon as I start again the headaches go,, let’s see what the GP says next week .

Kenny  :-\ was the reason for the headaches every investigated?

Dehydration can cause headaches too as can using too many tablets on an 'in case basis' which then leads to withdrawal when trying to take less.  Bodies can be so sensitive.

Hello Kenny.

I hope you find an HRT regime that works for you.

I have often posted about my menopause experience with headaches and it may be of interest to you.

When I was post meno but before I began HRT I woke with a headache every morning which lasted all day but bizarrely always went at about 9pm. I had never had headaches during my menstruating years and I was convinced that they were Meno related.
I have always kept a diary and I realised that after six months I had become completely headache free.
All this was years ago and I have not had a headache since. My point is that if you did want to come off HRT in the future you may find that this particular symptom will resolve after a few months.

Wishing you well.
