Oral estrogen side effects - Elleste Solo 2mg
« on: August 29, 2022, 09:50:33 PM »

Hey all. Does anyone else here have elleste solo tablets? I had a total hysterectomy and BSO in 2020.  Was on HRT from 2019. I react to the patches (several types) and also the gel, both types and also the spray  ::) I’ve tried the lot and my skin ****les and flared up in hives. Ultimately meaning I just don’t get a high enough level of estrogen and I want to scratch my own skin off. So I am finally trialling the tablets, only on 2mg which is half the 100 patches/4 or 5 pumps I was taking but I feel SO BAD. I’ve had ongoing vestibular migraines for over a year after a head injury and may well be linked to the low estrogen as well but since starting the Elleste I feel awful. So sick and exhausted.  I take the tablet in the morning, I feel worst around lunchtime and afternoon and after any activity. Then by evening I feel much brighter. Sleep ok. And start the cycle the next day. I can’t figure out if it is too low estrgoen and by evening I have absorbed, or if this is a reaction to the tablets. Or if my estrgoen is too high after th tablet and eases off my evening… I feel similar to how I used to feel when taking utrogestan pre BSO. And sort of like the migraines but not as dizzy. But then I’m taking meds for those now too  ! Any ideas or anyone else who has felt similar with the tablets??  Thanks

Hi there-
i hope you don't mind- i'm interested in your post as i also had a hyster/BSO in 2020 and, like you, am struggling with HRT.
i've tried gels and patches and just feel awful on them: sleep/mood etc all adversely affected
so i'm thinking of trying the elleste solo
i was going to ask for 1mg as i've been feeling mad on very low doses of gel and patch- absorption's not an issue.
anyway- i'm not much help to you, but i'll certainly let you know how it goes if this is what i do.
can i ask how long you've been on the tablet?
i suppose the fact that your mood is inconsistent throughout the day might suggest that the elleste hasn't properly bedded in yet??
i hope you feel better today x

Hi there

Sorry to hear about your HRT woes and the side effects. In addition to oestrogen, have you considered testosterone? I understand that this is especially important for women who have had BSO, though oral HRT does interfere with free T to some extent (by increasing a substance called SHBG which binds to free T and make it unavailable, apparently).

What happens if you take the tablet over night?  Would side effects keep you awake?

Hurdity,

do you know whether meno docs are happy prescribing oral oestrogen to post menopausal ladies?- i know that the preference is for transdermal but wondered whether that's set in stone- i think 3isenough is a bit younger than my 50 years?

also, and sorry to derail thread, but i'm v interested in raising my shbg so that could be a fantastic side effect of oral oestrogen! great difficulty raising mine and it has meant that even a smidge of testosterone results in sky-high readings and lunacy! i need higher shbg to control all that. am exercising and dieting which is probably a healthier way of raising it than relying on a tablet, but it's really hard to shift after an initial improvement.

anyway, hope you're ok, Op.

Whoops sorry I went awol got a bit. I gave up with tablets. I felt dreadful… I’m 44 Vintage so not so far behind you.

Hurdity I am on testogel and have been for 2/3 years. It took a long time to get my levels ok for that, I take one sachet in 7 days rather than 10.

I’m still struggling with the estrogen though. I’m using the estradot 100 and have a reasonable day in the middle but find the last day/2 I am low and migraine heavy. The change day I feel rough and do t sleep well. Day 2 is usually my best day. At least that’s 2 days a week!!

For what it is worth to other readers after seeing a suggestion from someone GP to use beconnaise on the skin before the patch to reduce the itchy sore rash that has definitely worked. Now I just need to get a higher patch or double dose somehow.
