Too much estrogen and breathlessness?
« on: October 09, 2022, 12:48:20 PM »

Hello ladies
Just a quickie. It’s be always associated breathlessness with low estrogen but I’m beginning to wonder if it can be a side effect of too high a dose. Has anyone else had this happen? Trying to work out what’s going on. Clear chest x ray.

Thanks, as always

Could it be asthma or an allergy? I had constant breathlessness after I got covid and it turns out I have asthma and need an inhaler daily.

Hi

I feel like this especially in the morning. I also cough up phlegm. All tests have come back normal. Another symptom I’m putting down to menopause!

I think I’m on too much oestrogen as I’ve an awful jittery feeling - you’ve commented on my post :-)   I’ve just cut down and will see how I get on over the next couple of weeks.

It’s such a fine balancing act!

I never heard of breathlessness associated with hormones. I am silly because I smoked even though I had lung problems as a kid and now I have smoking-related long damage. I'll get breathless. I've just relapsed on cigarettes but I'm not buying any more tobacco.

Hi

Yes it’s possible it’s asthma as I’ve just been given an inhailer. Didn’t have this before Covid! Plus think maybe meno anxiety not helping.
Dandelion- yes I was a smoker in stupid youth so also possible 🙄. I just see a connection with meno symptoms and breathlessness. I think hormones can play a role.
I just wondered if anyone else had this too. Thank you ladies so much some good suggestions xx

Hi Nik
We must be walking the same walk! Me too with mornings and phlegm and post nasal drip. It must be related. Gosh feel like I’m falling apart! X

Hi.

I had breathlessness at the start of my symptoms, but mine was anxiety.
Well, I think it was, couldn’t take a deep breath, had to lean forward to breath in deep.
Haven't got it now, even when I do suffer anxiety. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Hi jillydoll

I think I did too when peri- seem to remember having involuntary sudden intake of breath as well probably anxiety related too but it went when HRT started working. As I’ve lost control of my symptoms it could be this causing the air hunger too. Anxiety isn’t good right now and lots of outside stresses so probably a combo of all of the above. So glad you are doing ok! Gives me hope x

Oestrogel makes me breathless patches don’t..I think it might be the sudden rush of hormone with gel and patches are steadier.

Hi Xara69

Yes I’m struggling going back to gel.I’m wondering if it might be this too. Seems to have got worse since going back. I liked patches as felt they were more steady too just worried I didn’t seem to get as much estrogen but I’m now wondering if I don’t need as much these days. It’s all so confusing after having goid control for everything to be thrown off again. I hope you are ok x

Hi shoppingqueen..I’m ok..I feel covid upset my hormones/hrt. I had been ticking along nicely for 5 years. Then for about 3 months after infection I couldn’t tolerate any hrt, some foods, smells etc caused adrenaline surge, dry mouth, breathlessness…some sort of histamine mast cell thing. It’s over a year and I’m much better but not completely…I can eat most things but too much oestrogen still does this..my level is about 200 so told to go on gel and utro but can’t increase it so I’m on evorel sequi which mostly suits me..more oestrogen is no good if I can’t breathe! Morning

I definitely think Covid upsets hormones. It totally threw mine off - after each vaccine and when I actually had it.

Nik and Zara
Yes absolutely re Covid and also vaccines. Dr Currie mentioned in an email they were having lots of women previously controlled being thrown off. I agree this was same for me Zara. I wonder if this is why my tolerance of estrogen has been affected. Three pumps of Gel and I’m a jittering jangly mess! I think I’ve no choice now but up trial patches again and get used to much lower absorption. What a merry go round!
