Ca-125
« on: October 04, 2022, 06:28:19 PM »

Hi all I'm post menopausal and had a bleed for 10 days sent for scan and I have a simple ovarian cyst on left ovary what I'm wondering is that I had my CA-125 blood results back today but there's only a graph no indicator if I have high or low levels it just says organisation value on the 4th November etc and I can see that they can withhold results from a patient to speak to them themselves, so obviously I'm worried now as I can't see why they havnt put my results up. Sorry for long rant and hopefully this will make sense to someone.

Waiting gives the brain the time to go into over drive!!!!!  To relieve your worry, U could check with your GP/Nurse Practitioner but 4th November isn't long to get results.  Who suggested the CA-125 test?

I wouldn't expect to get results without seeing a Consultant or GP etc., I don't agree with patients being able to access results on line.  It may be that the results aren't back with the GP yet, it can take a while for scans etc. to be processed.

It was the person who did the scan who said I should have the blood test.

Could you contact them to ask why?  Medics have a strange way of not explaining the why's/where4s, in all the years I was a medical secretary not 1 patient asked why they were having 'routine blood tests'  >:(  ::) .  Patients either forget or are too scared to ask ............ which is why my Surgeon insisted on a worry list every morning on his Ward Round.

Hello Clittle, if you're understandably worried, rather than wait until Nov I'd contact your GP or gynae's sec (if you have one) now & ask them if they can interpret/have any more info on the test result.

CLKD, CA-125 is a standard test when a new ovarian cyst is discovered.  I had the test several times in connection with cysts in the past.

Tnx. So not necessarily a 'worry' as such?

Well it still says the same thing and the graph is still empty, but my doctors notes on another page says it's normal at 13.5 so I'm over the moon now, I can enjoy my 51st birthday tmr now.

I can't understand why the GP didn't ring to reassure you - mayB make that suggestion when you eventually get to speak with him/her?

So a birthday:  :hbday: :cake: :party09:
