Hello & A Question About Testogel
« on: October 11, 2022, 06:16:40 PM »

Hello. I haven't posted on here for a long time. A brief background is that once upon a time this fantastic place saved me and my sanity when peri menopause tipped me into a black hole of depression and anxiety.

I also found my way to Professor Studd's door and he correctly diagnosed me and immediately started me on 4 pumps estrogel + 100mg progesterone 7 days a month + pea sized blob of Testogel every day.

It took a few months but he completely cured me.

Anyway, long story short - thanks to a diagnosis of early breast cancer nearly 3 years ago I had to give up my HRT. But I kept the Testogel 1.6 pump pack - one pack last me roughly 12 months.

My question is - does anyone else use the pump pack? And how long does it last you? My GP is useless and my pharmacist hadn't heard of a woman using it before!

Hi CLKD - lovely to see you here. I think Prof Studd has now passed away?

I'm absolutely fine now, thank you. Just taking Tamoxifen and now the proud owner of 2 much more pert and smaller boobs. So every cloud and all that...

Hi welcome back. I was thinking about you just the other day.

I haven’t used the Testogel pump pack, but I’ve used Tostran pump and that lasts me about 12 months. The Testogel is more concentrated I believe. X

I had a slightly rough start and after a few months I stopped taking it. My oncologist admitted it was only providing me with a *less* than 1% added protection. But even so, I gave it another go and have been taking it successfully for 18 months now - only another 2.5 years to go.

I've had to start using Ovestin cream though because I started getting regular UTIs thanks to lack of HRT and Tamoxifen drying everything up. Nice!

Hi one pump of Testogel contains 20.25mg of Testosterone.

One pump of Tostran contains 10mg of Testosterone.

The old sachets of Testogel contain 50mg of Testosterone and should be used over 10-14 days. The new sachets contain 40.5mg of testosterone.

The suggested dose of Tostran is one pump every other day so roughly 5mg per day.

Hi GypsyRoseLee
Interesting thread.  I am currently in the thick of treatment for breast cancer, which was oestrogen and progesterone positive, meaning I too had to stop all HRT immediately.  I was also using Tostran before and would be keen to add that back in.  Did you have to get clearance from your oncologist for this?  I always though that testosterone could only be added once oestrogen levels were sufficient, didn't know it could be taken in isolation.  I did get (reluctant) agreement to start back with vagifem and ovestin, though on a much reduced qty per week.  I will be put onto tamoxifen once the chemo and radiation is done so perhaps I can start then?

Hello GypsyRoseLee.

Long time no hear! I recall that you were a frequent user back in the day.

I am sorry to hear of your cancer diagnosis, I assume that happened after you stopped posting on the the forum.

I am amazed that after all your battles with HRT that you are now fine without it. What happened lol! Has your hormone induced anxiety and depression now resolved?
Your story of recovery would be of great interest to other ladies who are still struggling.

Regarding your question would another type of testosterone be a suitable replacement if there is a problem with Testogel?
I was prescribed Androfeme which is an Australian product designed for women and comes as a cream that is dispensed by a syringe. I found that it lasted a very long time.
The Meno clinic made the point that Oestrogen had to be at a certain level before I was allowed to try it and that may be the same for testosterone generally.

Take care.

Hello GRL, it's lovely to hear from you  :).  No experience of the Testogel pump pack but I see Dotty has given some very helpful info on that.  I just really wanted to second what Kathleen says - it's always so good to hear from women doing well postmenopause whatever path they've taken, as it gives much needed hope to anyone who's struggling.  I'm so pleased to know how well you're doing.
