Oestrogen forever?
« on: October 02, 2022, 09:47:03 AM »

Hi ladies

I suffer horrendously with my hormones and have done since puberty.
I’m on HRT but still have problems with tearfulness and anxiety - currently trialling a higher dose of oestrogen.

My question is will I need oestrogen forever to stay well? My GP is telling me I’ll need to come off it when I’m 55 as I’ll be through menopause and fine! It terrifies me.

I am under the care of Newson Health who say I can be on it for life but worry my GP will refuse to prescribe.

Thank you x

If you were to stop then your oestrogen would decress. HRT can be taken for life. Your GP is mistaken.

Hi, in my experience different GPs will tell you different things. I would find another GP. She doesn’t know how you will feel when you are 55! Good luck x

Hi Nik

We spoke on my thread 😁

This has to be absolute rot from your GP. I’ve been on HRT since 46 when I hit horrendous meno overnight. I’ve recently had a bad experience with patches and jumping around and my meno symptoms came back full force. I’d dearly hoped it might have all gone being post menoI’m 54 and a half! If this were true, I’ll be looking forward to June 7th when it all stops 😂.

Hi Nik,
I think we all start our HRT journeys at different times and. . . We all have different GPs with varying levels of knowledge about the Menopause !!
I didn't get onto an HRT regime that suited me until  age 54 ,intact I was a month off 55 !!!!
This was pure luck as I was seeing a female Gynae for another problem and she sorted it out for me. She told me I could stop at 60 if I wanted but I could also carry on if it made me feel better.  That specialist will never be aware how much she changed my life for the better !
I have a mirena coil for progesterone( as couldn't tolerate patches/ utrogesten )and estrogel.
It's not a total cure for other health issues as I still get periods of anxiety  but I think for me being stuck between Adult kids and ageing parents it's more to do with where I am in life !
I think for you just be reassured its ok to be where you are for now with oestrogen treatment  and  another GP  will have another opinion. One day at a time is all.you can do otherwise it creates its own anxiety x

I've been on HRT since I was 42 (put on after surgical menopause) and have been on it ever since and I am now 69.  I have no intention of stopping it. x
