10 weeks oestragel (only) then 10 days utrogeston -anyone try this
« on: September 28, 2022, 08:36:24 PM »

Hi folks,

I am progesterone intolerant.

My consultant has suggested doing the above 2 pumps oestrogel daily for 10 weeks then 10 days of progesterone 200mg utrogeston .

Has anyone tried this successfully.

I actually am still unsure if I can do it like this as the 200 mg utrogeston leaves me incapacitated. I cannot wake up , I cant hold a conversation together, I am drugged basically . hate the stuff. My consultant said women call it the devils medicine it affects so many women in a negative way.

anyway, Id love to hear anyone's experience.

ps im perri, irregular periods last one was months ago though.

Hi Molly

I too am progesterone intolerant. It is interesting that your consultant has had lots of negative feedback re utrogestan, we don’t always get to hear that and are expected just to get on with it.

I have seen specialist both privately and on the nhs to try to deal with this issue. Basically they were prepared to support me in whatever works as long as I had regular scans.

I am post menopausal now (just gone 58) and what I have found is I am better able to tolerate ‘the devils medicine’ if I take it for the least duration possible. This is 7 days vaginally. Interestingly I don’t get on with long cycle, it’s as if my body is still in a cycle and needs a bit of prog but not too much. During the 7 days I am fine for the first 4/5 days, then it builds up in my system and the last 2 days are tough. As are the first few days of withdrawal. Like you I cannot speak properly, I have awful dreams, negative thoughts and if ever I’m going to fall out with my husband it’s then. Then as soon as it’s out of my system I’m back to my old self. I probably loose a week per month with this regime, but while ever I want to stay on hrt (and I do for the many benefits), it’s a necessary evil. Sorry I can’t offer better news but hope this helps.l x

PS I’ve tried every other progesterone going and they were even worse as I had to take them longer

Hi Perinowpost

I hope you don't mind me cutting in on this post.

I too am post menopausal, started hrt 25th august. I also take utrogestan vaginally 100g, however I take it in the morning
as I didn't want it to distrupt my sleep. I know it's supposed to help sleep I didn't find it did that with me, so I take it vaginally every morning xxx

With your regime where you only take it 7 days do you obviously have to go for regular scans and stuff? And when you aren't on it (i.e. the other days of the month) do you experience withdrawal symptoms?

Thanks so much xxx

Hi Discogirl

I don’t mind at all. We’re all here to help each other aren’t we? I’ve personally learnt a lot from this forum.

I take mine last thing at night, because it does help me sleep. In fact it knocks me out.

Yes I have annual scans. I have been doing this several years now and they’ve all been fine.

I do have withdrawals from the utrogestan. The first 2 days are the worst. I can’t schedule anything important then as I feel pretty awful. Then by the time I get my withdrawal bleed (3 days after I’ve stopped taking it) I start to feel something like. And by the time the bleed is over (lasts 2 days) I’m back to normal.

Hope this helps xx

That really is so very helpful Perinowpost.

And likewise I know I keep saying this, but its true, I really don't know where I'd be without this site.

The information from the ladies has been invaluable

Thank you xxx

Search for compounded hormones, there's a long thread. Not recommended by the BMS as they aren't subjected to same rigorous standards as licensed hrt but does have a place for those who can't tolerate progesterone any other way.
