Amitriptyline for neuralgia
« on: September 21, 2022, 08:57:40 PM »

Still trying to get my head round my dental pain which I think may be trigenmal nerve damage  :-\

What kind of pain does amitriptyline treat? Wikipedia

Amitriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant that is widely used to treat chronic neuropathic pain (pain due to nerve damage)

It is recommended as a first line treatment in many guidelines.

Neuropathic pain can be treated with antidepressant drugs in doses below those at which the drugs act as antidepressants.   6 Jul 2015

from Very Well Health :

Elavil (amitryptyline) is a medication with several uses.

It has long been used for the treatment of depression but is sometimes given as an adjuvant (meaning "along with") pain medication to people with chronic back pain.

A tricyclic antidepressant, amitryptyline is very effective for pain, but it does come with some side effects and drug interactions.

It was found in the 1960s to trigger seizures as well as easing them.

The first time I came across amitriptyline was when given it by a Neurologist for severe nerve pain caused by MS. He went to great lengths to say that although it is a tricyclic antidepressant he didn't think I was depressed, it just alters the way the pain receptors in the brain operate.

i was given it to try and help my tinnitus (nerve pain).

ive been on and off it since feb. at first it sedated me but after a few weeks that wore off.

my dosage was 20mg now 10mg. i took it in the morning but the half life of the drug is still about 20hrs.

im convinced it is the reason in part why my sleep is so bad prior to taking i slept like the proverbial baby.

so im weaning off it. its awful to come off it.

everyone is different CLKD it may really work for you xxx
