Utrogestan continuous - which method for less tiredness?
« on: September 16, 2022, 12:40:40 PM »

Hi, I am currently taking Estradot patch (just over 50 mcg), 100mg Utrogestan nightly vaginally, and tiny blob of Testogel.  I did try Provera for a while but didn't get on with it so back on Utrogestan.  It is making me feel quite sedated during the day, almost to the point of finding it hard to get up off the sofa and do something! I'm not sure if this is my body trying to get used to it again but think it has always caused me to feel a bit sedated.
Could I ask about people's experiences regarding the method of taking it?

Anyone take it orally and find it doesn't cause them tiredness during the day and prefer this route?
Anyone take it vaginally and find i doesn't cause tiredness during the day?
Anyone taking it every other day (which method?) and find it doesn't cause tiredness during the day? If so do you notice a difference in the taking and non-taking days?

Thank you x

Hi!

Have you had your bloods tested recently, especially for VitD levels and thyroid function?

Perhaps put the product names into the search box to see what pops up?  Make notes ;-)

Hi Cherry
I’ve been taking 100mg utrogestan orally at bedtime for the last 6 months.  For me, I’m sleeping well now, I occasionally wake with a slight headache but don’t feel fatigued at all during the day (I also take 50mg sertraline in the morning) and, even so, feel quite bright throughout the day..

I hate progesterone! I'm 60, post meno for about 8 years and was on Cyclogest which I took as a pessary around 6-8 days a month. Some months just couldn't face it...like you it makes me feel so heavy, slow and low, sometimes very low.

But got a scare this year when routine annual scan I ask for (given my non-compliance) showed thickening of endometrium + polyp.  New GP advised me to come off HRT immediately.

Dreadful couple of months but wrote complaint to hospital cos number on their letter just rang out, day after day, no idea if I was going to very ill or need not worry. Anyway got a response then with consultant advising the thickening was slight and the polyp tiny less than 1% chance cancerous - and could go back on HRT phew. Just sitting on waiting list now which I'm not happy about and will have to dig into savings for a private hysteroscopy if not heard soon. Our waiting lists are among worst in country especially for gynecology

Having also waited 2 years to see a meno specialist, I bit the expensive bullet and consulted the Newson clinic - now on one half Cyclogest 400mg (so 200) alternate nights - vaginally now.  If I take it around 6 or 7 in the evening. It definitely affects my mood - more meh and pointless feeling than utterly down. And feel like wading through treacle

Finally have testosterone from Newson clinic after years of asking GP - early days but noticing a slight uplift in mood and energy and wondering if this will help balance it all out eventually. Back to Newson clinic for follow up in a couple of months.

Sorry long reply!  Hope it helps you as well as me 😃

So I didn't mean to hijack your question - just trying to say that  alternate days on cyclogest slightly more bearable than a long stint for me and I'm hoping the testosterone will also help.

And there's a consequence for non-compliance!

There are other types that may suit you better. I didn't get tiredness on evorel but do on utro (developed an allergic reaction to the glue in evorel so can't use it now).

Thank you all for your interesting replies - I'm hoping my body will get used to it again and cause less tiredness but I may do some experimenting with route. Still considering a return to Evorel Conti but persevering with Utrogestan just because I feel it may be a safer option.  It's never straight forward !! Thank you x
