Inflammation of bowels and diarrhoea - Progesterone related???
« on: September 06, 2022, 10:05:44 PM »

Hello All
Just joined this group.
Am 49 and Peri Meno for 1.5 years or so - main symptoms are anxiety with palpitations, rectocele prolapse , dry skin and loss of libido.

Started HRT patches - Evorel Sequi

My question is - has anyone found increased bowel issues with HRT patches esp during the combined progesterone days. I have actually lost weight and have watery diarrhoea for a for days at a time and am exhausted more than ever.

Hello Shilpa. Welcome to the forum. I think it would be a good idea to tell your GP what is happening. I am wondering if you could have a stomach bug. I think it would be good to get it checked out.

Hi Shilpa. I agree with what Flossieteacake has said. It's always a good idea to get things checked out.

How long have you been on patch HRT for? It's more usual for digestive problems to occur when on oral HRT as this has to be metabolised by the liver.

Sorry to hear about your rectal prolapse. I'm sure the diarrhoea has not helped with this.

How long between beginning HRT and the bowels becoming upset?

10 mins B4 a period began I would get 'the runs', even when one wasn't expected!  Don't know which hormone is involved slightly prior to a bleed.

Thanks for the replies - I have been to GP and had tests. Have to go for further investigations and a colonoscopy. GP does not think its HRT related.

I'm glad your GP listened to you and that you are having a colonoscopy so you can work out what's causing it. Let us know how you get on won't you.

It is good you managed to speak to your GP. I hope the colonoscopy goes well.

Just wanted to let you guys know the results of the colonoscopy - Inflammatory bowel disease  - waiting for biopsy results to confirm but they think Crohn's disease.

Hello Shilpa and welcome to the forum.

I am sorry that you have been diagnosed with an IBD but don't despair.

I was told I had Ulcerative Colitis the same month that I experienced my last period so I was dealing with being post meno and UC at the same time. This was in 2010 and I only needed a short course if treatment before I went into remission and I have been symptom free ever since. I take a non steroidal anti inflammatory tablet very day and I mainly eat low inflammatory foods.

I hope your treatment works for you and that you feel better soon.

Take care.

K.
