Do I get this mirena removed??
« on: September 04, 2022, 05:53:18 PM »

Still in a dilemma re: mirena coil.
It has been in for 3 months now.
I have had it checked and it is in situ.

I am aware that my oestrogen still isn't right, but these period pains are doing my head in now.
I am also unsure whether it is contributing to my mood swings and general unwell feeling (or whether that is post covid/low oestrogen)

If i have it removed, more than likely, I will bleed regularly (utrogestan pretty useless) and that will be the end of HRT for me.

Just not sure I can continue for a further 3 months.

I had thought of upping the oestrogen and specialist has reluctantly agreed to let me trial the 100 patch, as 75 is ineffective now.

Any thoughts?

Have you tried Oestrogel?   The reason I ask is because I used patches with a Mirena coil years ago and I was never about to get anything like enough oestrogen out of them.   This was borne out when I had blood tests.

I find gel to be much stronger and my current dose of one pump every day is more effective than the 50mcg patch I used before.   In theory, patches should provide a more stable delivery of oestrogen but I found them to be unreliable because they didn't stick properly.

From the experience I had, if you don't have a sufficient level of oestrogen, the side effects from the coil become too dominant.   My regret is that I didn't try the gel when I still had the Mirena coil.

Alternatively, you could try Lenzetto.

Thanks Mary.
Yes, it is possible that the coil has become dominant right now.
I feel dreadful: these period type pains, headaches, general irritated feeling rather like PMS is becoming all too common now.
I do have some gel, but find I don't absorb that well.
The patches are leaving a rash now and lenzetto, far too weak.

It seems real trial and error to find a product which is effective.

Need to have a think what to do next.

Have you tried estradot? I was on 4.5 pumps of the green square oestrogel, recently changed to 100 ostrodot and it's stronger. I got a rash with evorel but no reaction to these and it sticks like a limpet. Can you get your oestrogen level tested?
Would they give you a Kylena? The dose is less.

My oestrogen at the end of July after 3 solid months on the evorel 75, was 300 Sheila.
Same when I was on femeston conti 1/5 for 3 months.
Think absorption is an issue, as symptoms remain.

Now that I have the specialists approval for 100 dose, I will ask the GP to prescribe one or the other patch.

Nas ... Hope it works out for you ... But it would be also ok to go with your gut, as in you've always felt uncomfortable about the Mirena, you've given it a fair crack of the whip and you're still not happy.

Hi Nas

Could I just ask how long after having the Mirena fitted you started to feel rubbish? I’m struggling with progesterone so had a month off utrogestan and felt sooooo much better without it.

I had the Mirena fitted 6 days ago and woke up this morning with my worst symptoms - headache, brain fog dizziness etc.

I know I need to be patient (not my strongest feature 😂) but my every instinct tells me it's progesterone intolerance and I won’t be feeling better in a few months ……..

Thank you xx
