Vaginal atrophy
« on: August 28, 2022, 10:01:54 AM »

Hi there’s just wondering if anyone uses NESSA'S Vagina Victory Oil as a moisturizer?
Also what is the best thing to wash with Dermol or Hydromol.
I’m having flare up at the moment irritated bladder, vaginal soreness and sore inner Labia.

I use Vagifem twice a week but have decided to do a reload for a week, I don’t dare ask my GP as I know she will say I can’t she wouldn’t prescribe me Ovestin to use on the outside bits, she asked a Gynaecologist for advise and the reply was use Vagifem or Ovestin not both. I was sneaky and asked the nurse about it and she prescribed it for me so I’ve just started with it on the outside.

I’m interested what others do during a flare up so any advise please.

Hello Diggers. How annoying the GP and gyno said you cannot use Ovestin and Vagifem. I have noticed gynos do not understand menopause symptoms. I do not know if it is possible to ask your GP to ask a menopause DR? It is perfectly safe to use both.

I know the leaflet with vagifem says to use twice a week but you can use it daily. Most members on here use it daily to keep their symptoms under control and it is safe to do so. I use ovestin every day and would never stop.

I have not tried the oil you mention. I use Yes or Sylk. As for washing I think it depends on how you find it. I use E45 cream.

I am glad your nurse prescribed ovestin. It really helps for the outer area.

Diggers, can you find a new GP? I had a GP who said I couldn't use both and I just never went back to her and switched to someone else at the same practice.

For sure, use Vagifem daily again for at least 3 weeks. Use Ovestin AM and PM in a thin layer externally and mix it in with some moisturiser like Olive and Bee or YES OB so it gets spread around more.

I wouldn't advise washing with anything except water. Open the flaps and have a quick rinse in there!  ;D

As Joziel says  ;D

Anyways, I was prescribed Vagifem by my Gynaecologist GP to be used daily. When that wasn’t enough to treat my lower bits she prescribed Ovestin, a pea sized amount used twice daily is all I need. Nearly a year into treatment I am still on this daily regime.

I don’t know of the moisturisers you mention but I use Sylk and wash with aqueous cream. I’ve used them from the start and as they work well for me, I have kept with them.

Just to say I found it very easy to buy a back-up tube of Ovestin from Superdrug online pharmacy if you have any trouble in the future with your surgery prescribing it for you.

I was washing with only water and a menopause DR told me that is very drying and best to use something like E45 cream. I had no idea water only was drying out the area.

Diggers, l agree with Joziel, find a new G.P as some ot them are woefully ignorant about the menopause. You can definitely use both together, and adding in the Ovestin will make a big diffedence to your V.A. I also agree with doing another full load of Vagifem. Honestly l despair at the outdated views of some G.Ps...it really shouldn't be this hard!

Your GP is so out of date  >:(

Gynaecologists have little knowledge about menopause.  Ask your GP for a referral to a decimated menopause clinic, there are waiting lists so best to start sooner rather than later.

One can use Vagifem or Ovestin every night for as long as is required.  1 can insert vagifem as well as smearing ovestin round the outer labial area.  I smear 'ovestin' inside and
out ;-).

Well done the Nurse!  MayB send an e-mail to the practice manager and ask her to read the VA threads on here ;-).

Yes it’s extremely annoying being told you can’t when I know I can. At least I have the Ovestin now.
With regards to seeing a different GP I may well next time, the only reason I have been seeing my current one is that it’s a female Doctor and I hoped she would have an interest in womens health but clearly not.

I live in Ventnor Isle of Wight and there are only 3 GPS in the practice no NHS menopause specialist on the Island

Thank you for all the replies, I’m definitely going to do the reload use the Ovestin outside and get a moisturizer I did try Yes years ago before I started the Vagifem but stopped as I felt it burnt and made me more sore. Maybe I should try it again. I’ll also try the Aqueous cream to wash with.

When the skin is so raw it seems everything will irritate it. Perhaps that is why the Yes hurt. Hopefully when your skin heals a bit you can use it.

I find KY Jelly adequate, when the skin is thin it will be sore.  If I get the need2P feelings I take 2 'nurofen' capsules to ease the nip as the urine flow stops.

How's the weather on the Island?  There mayB a Clinic on the mainland ;-).

Did you try the YES OB or the water-based one? I find the VM and WB too runny to stay there for long externally but oil-based like Olive and Bee or YES OB work much better. I actually prefer Olive and Bee to YES OB but it is more expensive... Olive and Bee is literally organic olive oil and bees wax. Only 2 ingredients. Shouldn't sting or make you sore.

I’m about to order some Olive and bee, I can’t remember which Yes one I used but I thought the Yes OB was for sex or can it be used as a moisturizer as well?

It’s warm on the Island today and a little cloudy, looking forward to my afternoon walk along the sea front.

I use hydromol for washing.  I have been told by a vulval dermatologist and a gynaecologist to use vagifem internally and to use ovestin externally.  I have been using Olive & Bee for some time and found it really good, but suddenly it has started irritating me.  I am now using organic castor oil and finding it really helpful.  It’s a bit oily but that doesn’t bother me as I don’t wear underwear.  On the plus side it’s cheaper than Olive & Bee!

YES OB can be used either for sex or as a moisturiser. Internally or externally.

Most people get the YES VM to start with - Vaginal Moisturiser - which is a water based one and a bit runny...
