Removing sticky residue after patch removal.
« on: August 27, 2022, 07:55:28 AM »

When on HRT before I always used baby oil to remove the black sticky marks left after removing the patch.

Newly back on HRT and just changed patch for the first time but have no baby oil. Asked hubby to get me some today but he suggested asking in here if there are any alternatives, and to text him at work to tell him what to bring home. What a diamond!

Any suggestions? Or is baby oil as good as anything? Thanks

I should think any oil would do, olive for example, but of course baby oil is the cheapest option. Rubbing alcohol or nail varnish remover will do at a pinch, but a bit harsh.

I've always found baby oil to be the best. One time I ran out and tried vitamin E oil assuming it would work. Nah that just didn't work even with leaving it for a few minutes. Wouldn't hurt to give  olive oil a try though.

You can just use olive oil, or any oil really.

I use coconut oil but would have thought any oil would do.

I just leave those marks there - but then, I'm old :)

If you remove the patch then hold your skin taut and with the patch you have just removed, pull that along the mark in one direction (so for example top to bottom) it will initially feel like it’s not doing anything then it will start to stick to the black marks which then pull/rub off. Does that make sense? I do this every time I change them and it’s so much less faff than the baby oil

I was just coming here to say I do exactly the same thing. Using my old patch to remove the residue seems to work better than anything else I have tried!
