So disappointed
« on: August 25, 2022, 07:51:22 PM »

Hi ladies, so went for my 3 month review today and I asked for Testosterone as my brain fog is getting ridiculous (I mentioned sex drive too) and my doctor refused unless I get a prescription from a private specialist because it’s not licensed. I can’t afford to do that as money is tight already.

My question is, and I know this sounds a bit dodge, but can you buy testosterone online? Or could I take a supplement alongside hrt? I’m pretty desperate as I’m finding it so difficult to work and do my job properly  :(  I can’t seem to hold a thought in my head for more than a second.

Just for info, I’ve been on Everol 25 and Utrogestan for 3 months now. I don’t want to up the Everol as I’m still peri and pretty sure I don’t need anymore than that just yet. Thank you!

You can ask for a referral to an NHS menopause clinic who can prescribe it. I'm not aware of anywhere you can buy it online. Do you have any other symptoms? Testosterone did nothing for my brain fog, it was oestrogen that improved it. 25 is a low dose, most people start on 50 in peri

I think you might have approached it in the wrong way with your uneducated Gp.

Don’t mention anything other than libido. Ridiculous I know, but you have to lay it on thick, say that it’s impacting your relationship etc

Helped my brain fog, so go fight for it! X

Hey Shiela, thanks for replying. I did think about asking to be referred but I think there’s only one meno clinic in my area and I imagine the waiting list will be v long. I did up my Estrogen for a while but felt awful (spaced out, really sore boobs) so dropped back down.

Thanks Marchlove, I’m sorry I didn’t explain that bit properly - I did say it was for sex drive initially then when she said no I mentioned brain fog too out of desperation. She even agreed that it could help but just wouldn’t give me it. Gutted.

Hi again, sorry if I misunderstood.

There are supplements that may boost testosterone but I would advise against buying testosterone itself online, for all the obvious reasons.

You could carefully research taking low dose Dhea as a way of increasing testosterone. You can buy online.
I emphasise low dose though as it can have an adverse effect if we take it when we are too young or don’t actually need it at this time.

I think overall you’re best battling the ridiculous system regarding getting testosterone prescribed.

Best of luck and let us know how you get on. X

Thank you, I’m not going to buy any online, I was just having a moment I think  ;D My heads all over the place.

I will look into the supplements while thinking of my next plan of attack with the doc! I’ll keep you informed x

Hi

This seems really unfair. I have both testosterone and dhea in cream form from my bhrt clininc - but it is very expensive. I'm 46 and they gave them to me off the back of my initial hormone tests. It's early days yet - no conclusion. What I will say is my dose of test is much lower than the nhs give - when they give it!!

Have a look at onas UK website - they offer a dhea cream that they say increases testosterone. Biovea do one too I think. But... Big but please please research first as Marchlove has said.

The last thing you want is to make yourself worse. And I agree - your best bet is to fight the system.

I'm only telling you where to look so you can be fully informed. I've never used these 'over the counter' dhea creams.

Good luck xx

If you take a trip to Spain, you can get testosterone over the counter without a prescription from most pharmacies....

Just, in case you fancy a holiday...  ;D

Ahh thank you so much Crispychick. I feel slightly less despondent today. I fully understand why the GP doesn’t want to, it’s just so frustrating that she admitted it might help!

How long have you been using the cream for? I’m 46 too and can’t wait to get past all this. Feel like I’m going mad sometimes and I get so embarrassed at work asking people to repeat themselves constantly because I’ve forgotten what they’ve literally just said. I’m on the verge of packing work in as it’s such a struggle and the stress is doing me no good but I’m not sure how we’d cope financially and that would just be more stress! Arrrgh!

Yes don’t worry I always like to research thoroughly and if I’m not sure I’ll find another way. Thanks again x

Hey

This is my second attempt on the creams. My first attempt was aborted early as I was feeling so bad, but it's unlikely to have been either the test or dhea.

I've been on this trial - test around 12 weeks. No obvious improvements, but it's very low dose. I'll be getting bloods soon - so I guess it's possible they'll increase that. I've started adding the dhea back in this week. Too early on that.

I hear u. My 40s have been hell. It continues.  :(

I would get on the list for the nhs even if there is a long wait, it's better than nothing (though perhaps Spain is more tempting  :)) . Have you considered tibolone? I believe it contains something with androgenic properties and is known to increase libido.
Have you had a test for testosterone? How is your libido? Mine was zero.

I really hope it’s starts helping you soon. It’s so hard isn’t it cos you feel like time is precious the older you get but then you spend years feeling like poo! We will get there!  :D

Yes I think that’s what I’m going to do. At least in the meantime my body might have time to adjust a bit more. It’s been 3 months on hrt so maybe I’m just one of those who takes longer to adapt.

Thanks for the heads up on Tibolone (I read it as Toblerone which might help too haha) No I’ve had no tests for anything and have zero libido. At the moment I wouldn’t care if I never had sex again. Thanks Sheila x
