Sleep Issues
« on: August 28, 2022, 07:16:16 AM »

Hi all,

I've just started HRT, mainly due to my sleep issues and anxiety.

My sleep issues are, prior to february of this year I slept like a baby, however now it takes me hours to drop off to sleep. Once I'm asleep I'm okay it's the getting there that is the issue.

Before I started HRT I used to take magnesium glycinate at night, but I stopped a few days when I started HRT. But I've been told that if I take the magnesium glycinate a few hours before I take my progesterone at night, I should be okay, so I'm planning to do that today, maybe take the magnesium about 6 o'clock.

I just wondered if other ladies have had issues getting to sleep, and what worked for them, or is it the case that post meno, sleep patterns just change and you may never get your old sleep patterns back.

It's not hot flushes that keep me awake, I think it's anxiety driven to be honest.

Any help would be gratefully received.

Thanks xx

I stick youtube on and listen to either:
A meditation (meditation vacation is great).
A story read without the narrator 'acting' each character.
White noise.
Isochronic tones and frequencies in the lower ranges.
Soft music.
Documentaries.
Boring stories, lol! (Try 'Irish Idylls')

Hi discogirl

Yes you are on the right track. Taking both progesterone and magnesium glycinate at night is fine.

Just take it a couple of hours apart, but it’s a matter of playing around with it to see what works for you regarding actually getting to sleep.

So you might have to completely switch what order and what time you take them.

Good luck and let us know how you get on xx

Thanks Tulip, I will try "Irish Idylls" and Marchlove I will let you know;

Its only been 4 days on HRT so early days but hopefully with the magnesium glycinate will help.

This site has been a lifesaver for me and also for many other women.

Thank you both so much for your advice.

Take care xx

Hi Discogirl, l also listen to guided meditations on you tube. There's lots to choose from but l find those by Linda Hall incredibly soothing. Her voice is so hypnotic and relaxing that it gets me off to sleep in no time.
