Sandrena Gel making joint pain worse
« on: July 26, 2022, 01:20:30 PM »

Hi, I am 3 months into taking 1.5 mg of Sandrena gel and my joint pain has become excruciating.  Why does this happen and what can I do now.  I'm 16 weeks post op hysterectomy and bso.  I also take testogel.   Things are getting worse not better.
Any advice would be welcome please.

Hi Sandie64, that sounds horrible & I'm sorry you're in so much pain, not long after a big op too.  I would contact your GP in the first instance.  If no-one has tested to see how well you're absorbing the oestradiol it might be helpful to know that, as you'll know that low levels can be implicated in joint pain.  Your GP may also want to refer you to a rheumatologist to rule out other causes.  Having had BSO myself I sympathise as it can be difficult to get HRT right in our circumstances.

Yes it would be useful to know levels. Quite possibly you need more oestrogen and more testosterone

If you've had a hysterectomy did you also have your ovaries removed? If so you have suddenly lost all your estrogen and will likely need more than the 1.5mg of Sandrena. They can give you 2mg as max licenced dose but some women end up needing even more. Joint pain is a symptom of low estrogen (it was for me before HRT) so it's likely that you need more...

My levels on last blood test were E 145 and FAI 1.3

That is a pretty low estrogen level. Ideally you should be around 250nmol + if on HRT, although some of us seem to do better at lower levels - but not all women will and you definitely have room to increase considerably there.

I agree with joziel, your oestradiol level is quite low & this could account for your joint pain.
