Advise needed
« on: July 21, 2022, 09:20:47 AM »

Morning
I am 41 years old and I have been experiencing many of the menopause symptoms for around 4 years now.

When mentioned  to the GP are these relates to the menopause I have been told no your to young

I have finaly been stated on oestrogen gel and was told yesterday by the GP my levels of FSH are very high which indicates post menopause.

My mood and libido and day/night sweats are the worst of the symptoms.
Please can  some one let me.know if testosterone would help?
And how long after starting HRT do I have to wait to try testosterone?

Thanks

You need to get your oestrogen levels right first, you should try any regime for 3 months as some symptoms take a while to go. Flushes usually go within a couple of weeks, my anxiety and insomnia took 3 months. For some people libido returns with oestrogen, others need testosterone.

Hi Emfitz. Good advice from sheila. Which progesterone have you been given alongside the oestrogel to protect your womb? Are you still having natural periods?

You will find lots of support on here. Have you researched premature menopause to find out as much as you can? There is info on this site under Menu on the home page. You could also search the forum posts by putting early/premature menopause into the search box.

Testosterone may help you, it helped me. You would need to look into it with your GP but on the nhs they only give it for low libido, so emphasise that if you wish to try it. I was on estrogen 8 weeks before my private specialist started me on testosterone cream and I noticed fairly quickly I had more energy, more alertness, better concentration and memory plus my body was able to physically work out every day so I also had better muscle etc etc I have tweaked my estrogen since then so I don’t think it was optimised completely but I was used to it by the time I started testosterone. Good luck with it all.

Go back and tell your GP that no woman is ever TOO YOUNG  :bang: :bang: :bang: explain that some girls never have a period; some have a few then stop; women go into what is [incorrectly] called 'early menopause' ....... that he/she should listen to your symptoms, not be ageist which is illegal in England. Is there a Nurse Practitioner who would be more useful, if not ask for an appt to dedicated menopause clinic.  NOT a gyane!

Explain also that peri-menopause are the (10) years prior to the end of periods = menopause.  However: during those years women feel all kinds of problems as hormones rise and fall and oestrogen can give lots of symptoms.  My periods waxed and waned for a few years, sometimes with 6-7 months between.  It is said that we should count 12 months clear of bleeds B4 we can think we are 'there', however.  Nature can throw in a curved ball so we have to begin counting from 1.

Blood tests are reliably unreliable.  You can't be prescribed testosterone via a GP unless recommended by a dedicated menopause specialist, (not a gynae.).  I would ask for a referral sooner rather than later as there are waiting lists.

Some find that keeping a mood/food/symptom diary of use.

HI Taz
Thank you for your advise. I have the marina coil along side oestrogel. I dont have periods with the coil, I did have brake through bleeding (spotting) around 3 years ago.
Thanks Emma
