Overhaul of Women’s healthcare on NHS
« on: July 20, 2022, 07:11:05 AM »

Really pleased to read this. The NHS has announced a 10 year strategy to overhaul failures in woman’s healthcare at every stage of their life. This includes the menopause!

From the article:
The strategy aims to end “stigmas which reinforce beliefs that female health problems or painful symptoms are something to be endured”. New women’s health hubs will be established, which will offer “one-stop-shop clinics”. In a foreword Steve Barclay, the health secretary, and Maria Caulfield, a health minister, said the strategy aims to “right the wrongs” of the system. They said: “It sets out how we will improve the way in which the health and care system listens to women’s voices, and boost health outcomes for women and girls.”

I was part of the 100,000 women involved in the consultation and detailed how my previous GP treated me when I went to him with menopause symptoms. This is great news.

£10M will be spent on what though?  It's all talk.  Monies promised to various areas of NHS, Education and other services remain in Banks, not reaching the areas to which they were promised.

How much does it take to teach new Doctors what should already be in the Curriculum?

I'm not holding my breath but thanks for raising the topic.

I read this and was also listening to it being discussed on the radio. It's been a long time coming but hopefully things will begin to change.

Yes Taz & jaypo, it has been a very long time coming but it’s excellent to see it’s being prioritised and discussed at this level. It’s taken a lot of work from campaigners, and women who contributed to the consultation were also important in this. Many other countries aren’t doing things like this yet so I think credit where it’s due.
Talking about the need for this is the start, the details aren’t in this article but I for one have been frustrated I can’t just go to one doctor for all of my woman’s health related needs so the hubs sound excellent and much needed to me.
Well done to all the women who have worked hard to make sure this was addressed.

Hello ladies

I salute the women who have made this happen and I look forward to improved healthcare in the future.

I will be even more pleased when we see practical changes and experience the benefits. Call me an old cynic but we need to keep the pressure on the politicians and other policy makers to live up to their promises.

Take care everyone.

K.

I'm (cautiously) pleased too. In far too many areas (not just health) women are just treated as if they're small men (yes I've read Criado Perez's book and am angry).

I'm lucky enough to have a decent GP who is reasonably good on women's issues, but it shouldn't be down to luck, it is a right and every woman should have access to the same.

Governments in the past have promised 2,000 new Nurses wishing X, Y, Z years.  However, it was never taken into account how long these nurses would take to train/qualify nor what the drop out might be.  These people put promises to appease the public but in the main, few of them actually know what it takes to keep the NHS going as they have no on the ground knowledge.

It's health care all round.  The UK needs more medical staff. End of.  Specialists need to be up2date with what patients require.  Until the UK provides more staff so that pressures are eased, issues are unlikely to improve.  7 years ago my sister left the NHS due to unsafe working conditions, it broke her heart as she is very much a 'free at the point of delivery' person.  Even the rules for the latter have altered  :-\

Shall I turn the key in the charabanc when it's cooler ;-).  Who do U want to target first?

I actually wanted a moment of celebration for all the work women have done over the last few years CLKD. Could you take the negativity elsewhere? Thanks.
