Early Menopause
« on: July 16, 2022, 09:49:01 AM »

Hello Guys,
I am a 30 year old lady I have been having symptoms of going through premature menopause for the last year I have seen my GP on several occasions just to be told that I am too young to be going through premature menopause. I have all the symptoms I.E.
 Night sweats
hot flashes
insomnia
excessive weight gain around the abdomen area
mood swings
low energy and fatigue
hair also falls out when brushing or washing.
I have a genetic condition in which I have a translocation of my chromosomes and the specialist in which I seen basically told me that because I have the Genetic condition that I am more likely to go through the early menopause I told my GP this and was basically just fobbed off I am booked in for bloods to be done next month but I was wondering if there is anything that I can be doing in the mean time to help with my symptoms?
I have taken the menopause self test kit and they have both come back as positive I would be grateful if anyone can help me as I am at my wits end now

Thanks :)

Hello Kady. Welcome to the forum. I am sorry to hear your GP is so dismissive. I started menopause at 38 and was told I was too young. I was also told my symptoms were mental health related as I have mental health issues. I insisted on trying HRT and spoke to a different GP. You know your own body and what is right for you. If your GP is unwilling to listen then could you speak to a different GP?

Hello, sorry to hear you’ve not been listened to by your GP. I went into early menopause but at 39. Before aged 45, NICE guidelines say that a woman presenting with symptoms should have blood work done to determine if she is in menopause and if they confirm it you should be offered HRT. It would be particularly dangerous to be low in estrogen at your age and your bone health could be severely impacted. I would go search for the NICE guidelines, print them and take them to your GP.

Hi! so many GPs tell ladies of all ages that "you are too young"  >:(

Have a lookC at the Daisy web-site, dedicated to 'early' menopause.  Is your condition overseen by a Consultant who may be able to give advice?

Let us know how you get on: welcome: - we talk about everything here, even menopause sometimes  ;)

Hi Kady - If you check out the Dr Louise Newson podcast, she has a few episodes about premature menopause and POI (premature ovarian insufficiency).

Can you not get your bloods done before next month? That is a long time to wait. Perhaps try a different GP? I had to see about 4-5 different GPs before someone would listen to me and it does get exhausting and you feel really alone - but you will eventually find someone. I even changed doctor's practices to a practice with many more doctors so I'd have a better choice.

If you have these symptoms insist on seeing a menopause consultant who will be able to support you. Bloody some gps are a nightmare.

'weight gain' around the abdominal area may be due to the apron dropping so that when looking down, you appear 'fatter'.  Oestrogen is the elastic of our bodies.  Mine dropped several years ago, in bed I am completely flat.  By the end of the day however  ::)

Hello Kady,
I have a diagnosis of POI, my periods stopped at 36 years old. It took me three years to get a diagnosis as I was continually told I was too young by a number of GPs. Similar to you I took the at home test and they were positive. I just knew in my body that something wasn’t right.
I eventually got diagnosed by a fertility specialist. Please seek another GPs opinion and insist that they consider POI.  If you can pay private, please do. I suffered unnecessarily for years with various symptoms of low estrogen. I can support you with what to say etc if you want to message me. Please also look at the Daisy Network. They offer a helpline to support ladies and they may be able to help.

Hi Kady. They are talking rubbish I went through the menopause I would say it at 24 the doctor don't believe that it could be the menopause and only diagnosed at 3 years later when I was 27. The doctors didn't listen to me either. It was really annoying as all my symptoms were there too. Just keep contacting them and insisting someone will take notice. Hope you get it sorted soon x

No one is too young for menopause.  Some girls never menstruate; some have 1/2 bleeds then nowt.

That’s the earliest my bloods can be done I’ve seen nearly every doctor and they all tell me I’m too young and fob me off

Send an e-mail to your Practice Manager to ask why the GPs think women might be 'too early ' to be in perimenopause?  It might focus their minds a bit.  Where are they getting their information from, are they both male/female who are telling you this?

You could send a PM to Dr Currie - details of cost above - with a query i.e. "Can women be too young for menopause symptoms" then hand over her reply ;-)

I have a genetic condition in which I have a translocation of my chromosomes and the specialist in which I seen basically told me that because I have the Genetic condition that I am more likely to go through the early menopause I told my GP this and was basically just fobbed off I am booked in for bloods to be done next month but I was wondering if there is anything that I can be doing in the mean time to help with my symptoms?

.  Morning.   Have you seen the Specialist recently and was a letter sent to your GP, who should read the letter to you.  Another option is to ask the secretary of the Specialist if she can send you a copy or perhaps the Specialist would speak to you over the 'phone for an update.

Which symptom would you like to ease first?  Sometimes hormonal upheaval causes them to arrive in a rush  ::) so it may be difficult to separate which is the worst.
